The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Pediatrics, seeks an outstanding pediatric hematologist/oncologist to join the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

The successful candidate will provide care to children with cancer and blood disorders and will participate in the continued growth of clinical and translational research that is fundamentally important as we strive to improve outcomes for children with these diseases. Embedded within Pediatric Hematology/Oncology are several high-profile clinical programs such as the Experimental Therapeutics Program, the Cellular and Immunotherapy Program, the Hemostasis Thrombosis program within which is the 340B-funded Hemophilia Treatment Center and the Young Women's Hematology Program.

In addition, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at UT Southwestern is the lead site for the North Texas Sickle Cell Disease Clinical Trial Unit. The successful applicant will join a division of 29 faculty, with national reputations as clinicians and physician-scientists. Candidates must have strong clinical and scholarly backgrounds, outstanding teaching skills in addition to experience in basic, clinical, or translational research.

While the program has broad interests and many potential opportunities for the successful candidate, particular areas of interest include a) focused clinical expertise on sickle cell disease and hemoglobinopathies; b) red cell disorders and iron biology; d) experimental therapeutics and experience in implementing and leading innovative therapeutic clinical trials in both oncology and hematology; d) education with a focus on teaching techniques, evidence-based teaching strategies, medical education scholarship, and contributing to career development of trainees especially in non-malignant hematology; e) quality improvement and f) neuro-oncology.

The appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the state of Texas and must be board eligible or certified in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

Beyond the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the successful candidate will enjoy the exceptionally rich biomedical research enterprise at UT Southwestern Medical Center, including the brand-new School of Public Health, Biomedical Engineering Program, NCI-designated Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, the McDermott Center for Human Growth and Development, the Green Center for Systems Biology, and the Children's Medical Center Research Institute. Clinical facilities include the Pauline Allen Gill Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Health, Dallas, which is adjacent to UT Southwestern Medical Center, as well as Children's Health Plano and UT Southwestern Medical Center Frisco. As one of the nation's largest pediatric cancer and blood disease programs (approximately 350 new oncology and over 700 new hematology patients per year) in the nation's fourth-largest metropolitan area, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center offers a superb milieu for career development.
