As a Pediatric Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) with a focus on prevention of disease and promotion of health, your role is crucial in providing specialized services to a diverse range of patients, including refugees and individuals from low-income populations. Here are some key responsibilities and considerations for your role:

  • Comprehensive Pediatric Care:

  • Provide comprehensive and age-appropriate healthcare services to pediatric patients, including preventive care, immunizations, and routine check-ups.

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical, emotional, and developmental well-being.

  • Preventive Healthcare:

  • Emphasize and implement preventive healthcare measures to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce the incidence of diseases.

  • Educate patients and their families on the importance of vaccinations, nutrition, and other preventive measures.

  • Therapeutic Relationship:

  • Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients and their families, fostering trust and effective communication.

  • Consider the unique needs and cultural backgrounds of refugees and low-income populations, adapting your approach to ensure culturally competent care.

  • Cultural Sensitivity:

  • Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity in your interactions with patients from diverse backgrounds.

  • Understand the potential challenges and barriers to healthcare access that may be present in refugee and low-income populations.

  • Community Outreach and Education:

  • Engage in community outreach to increase awareness of healthcare services and resources available to the pediatric population.

  • Collaborate with community organizations to address social determinants of health that may impact the well-being of your patients.

  • Collaborative Care:

  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and social workers, to ensure a holistic and coordinated approach to patient care.

  • Participate in case conferences and multidisciplinary teams to address complex healthcare needs.

  • Advocacy:

  • Advocate for the needs of pediatric patients, especially those from marginalized populations, to ensure they have access to quality healthcare services.

  • Stay informed about policies and initiatives that impact pediatric healthcare and actively participate in advocacy efforts.

  • Continuing Education:

  • Stay updated on the latest developments in pediatric healthcare through continuous learning and professional development.

  • Attend conferences, workshops, and training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge.

By fulfilling these responsibilities, you contribute significantly to the well-being of pediatric patients, particularly those in vulnerable populations, and play a vital role in promoting a healthier community.

Duties will include:

As the Pediatric Advanced Practice Clinician, you will provide:

Direct care:

  • Diagnoses and treats acute and chronic medical conditions and diseases according to scope of practice pediatric clients to include conducting a medical history, conducting physical exams, perform treatments such as suturing simple lacerations and wound care, etc.,

  • ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, devising a course of treatment, discussing alternative treatment, risk and benefits of treatment,

  • prescribing and monitoring medications,

  • appropriate counseling of patient and reassessment of the patient at appropriate intervals.

  • Provide patient education on disease treatment options, nutrition, exercise, and health maintenance behavior.

  • Maintains high quality notes and recommendations for treatment and next steps in the care plan as part of a team-based approach.

Indirect care:

  • Seeks clinical consultation from other clinicians as needed as part of practice management.

  • Provide consultation to other providers, nurses and support staff.

  • Prioritize and direct activities of the care team.

  • Coordinates with behavioral health, pharmacy, and dental providers to effectively integrate care.

  • Provides coverage for clinical colleagues in their absence.

  • Completes patient documentation and manages electronic in-basket according to established policies and procedures.

  • Utilizes panel based information technology tools to prioritize and direct proactive care for patients assigned to provider or team panel including preventive health screening and chronic disease care management.

  • Follow-ups on utilization issues (ED, hospital admissions) including specialty referrals and consultations.

  • Participates in Team, Professional, and Health Center-wide meetings.

  • Participates in continuing education to maintain licensure, and current, evidence based practice.

TO QUALIFY:

Required Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

  • Masters degree or equivalent in nursing from an accredited college or university

  • Possession of a valid Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certificate

  • License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon

  • CPR/BLS certification

  • DEA certification

Preferred Special Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of general medicine and surgery;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of methods and techniques of diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases and injuries;

  • Ability to effectively screen and gather required information in a professional, culturally competent and customer service oriented manner;

  • Ability to motivate clients through discussion and persuasion;

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;

  • Ability to be flexible and manage multiple priorities;

  • Ability to maintain composure and work objectively with clients who may be hostile or verbally abusive.
