Job Title: High School Physical Education Teacher

Supervisor: Principal

Terms of Employment: 190 Days

Job Summary

Position requires individual to direct and evaluate the learning experiences of students in both curricular and extracurricular activities.

Essential Duties

  • Plan and implement a program of instruction that adheres to the district and state philosophy, goals, and objectives.

  • Develop purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies, engage students, and maximize time on task.

  • Employ a variety of effective teaching strategies.

  • Utilize relevant technology in lessons.

  • Create an environment and lessons that are grade level appropriate to the South Carolina Physical Education Curriculum Standards...

  • Assume responsibility for carrying out the policies, rules, and regulations of Horry County Schools and other responsibilities as directed by the principal and program director.

  • Particular types of PE instruction may call for a variance from the normal dress policy.Such instances should be the exception rather than the rule.Such dress should still be in compliance with the variations allowed by the district professional dress code for Physical Education.

  • Foster effective communication with parents and/or guardians.

  • Provide for the care and protection of school property.

  • Cooperate with and participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the total school program.

  • Share responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students

Other Duties

Perform any other related duties as assigned by the principal.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)

  • Valid or pending teacher certification in the area of Physical Education from South Carolina or any other state.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Physical Education techniques and processes.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in operation and procedure for use of fire extinguisher, first aid kit, clean-up blood-born pathogen.

Physical Requirements

  • Knowledgeable of South Carolina Physical Education Curriculum Standards.

  • Trained and proficient in the pedagogy of current teaching techniques and instructional delivery

  • Possess the ability to transmit Curriculum Standards and District Objectives to both small and large group settings.

  • Proficient in the use of the Fitness Gram as a measure of student performance and parental communication.

  • Familiar with South Carolina State Physical Education Assessment and proficient in administering the Assessment to Physical Education students.

  • Committed to the health and physical wellbeing of all school children.

  • Cognizant of the importance of Physical activity and nutrition in the overall development of students.

  • Physical wellness is a family and community issue thatimpacts more than just the individual

Coaching Responsibilities: 1. Work with the athletic director to establish a yearly budget for area of responsibility. 2. Ensure compliance with all Horry County policies concerning athletics. 3. Ensure compliance with all South Carolina High School League rules and regulations as well as region rules and regulations. 4. Discuss all problems with the athletic director. 5. Create an exciting and interesting program that will attract student athletes and increase student body and community spirit. 6. Create a program which will monitor grades and behavior of student athletes. 7. Work with the athletic director to hire all staff for the basketball program. 8. Make sure all facilities in program are safe, clean, and well managed year round. 9. Create a system which will allow staff to grow in all phases of coaching to include pre- and post-season conferences. 10. Communicate effectively to the parents and community the vision for the basketball programs. 11. Prepare yearly pre- and post-season inventory sheets. 12. Work directly with the strength coach to establish in-season, out-of-season, and summer workout programs. 13. Work with college recruiters to place as many student athletes as possible. Other Duties Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator that serve to promote the social and academic well-being of students.
