JOB OPPORTUNITY

FULL-TIME DIESEL TECHNICIAN

PDI, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hy-Vee, located in Ankeny, Iowa has an immediate opportunity for a full-time Diesel Technician.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES:
1.Reports to work when scheduled and on time. Adheres to company policies and departmental guidelines.
2.Observes all safety and sanitation rules and regulations.
3.Performs heavy work exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
4.Performs preventative maintenance on vehicle fleet including but not limited to: company cars, pick-up trucks, shag truck, refrigeration units, and semi-tractor trailers. Maintains appropriate documentation on work performed.
5.Diagnoses problems and performs repairs and/or part replacement submitting documentation of work performed and associated costs.
6.Conducts inspections on equipment to meet federal guidelines and documents accordingly.
7.Diagnoses and repairs electrical systems using computer and scanners. Installs and repairs onboard computer system.
8.Performs body work on vehicles involved in minor accidents.
9.Maintains a clean and neat work area and performs general clean-up.
10. May be called upon to respond to service calls from drivers out on the road to repair breakdowns.
11. Test drives equipment assist with diagnosis of problem and to determine if problems have been corrected.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB: Valid CDL license and ability to operate a semi-tractor trailer preferred.

DOT certified. Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects at one time. Able to solve practical problems with a variety of variables.

Ability to perform data entry in to computer system. Ability to perform general math. Demonstrates ability to perform tractor-trailer preventative maintenance and general repairs on all equipment.

Powered industrial equipment license required. Must provide own hand tools. Primary responsibilities require occasional very heavy lifting of parts and frequent medium to heavy lifting according to the Department of Labor Weight Classifications. This is a skilled position requiring repetitive motion, manual and motor coordination, and finger dexterity, grasping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, crawling, handling, carrying, climbing, balancing, driving, sitting, moving mechanical parts, talking, hearing, and visual acuity.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Must be AC certified on tractors. High school education required.

Technical certification or trade school degree in truck and trailer maintenance or equivalent experience preferred. Trailer refrigeration certification or equivalent experience preferred. Valid Class A CDL license preferred. 1 year minimum experience as a Diesel Technician or related work preferred.

A DOT physical and drug screen, and lifting test are required.

The Officer observes and reports for correction of any and all safety, security and policy violations. Could be called upon at any time to render aid in an emergency or crisis situation requiring medium to heavy lifting and physical fitness. * Reports to work when scheduled and on time. Adheres to company policies and departmental guidelines. * Monitors all inbound and outbound vehicle traffic and outside carrier's properly using dispatch application program, ensuring information is entered correctly and direction is given in a professional manner. Verifies seals, padlocks, trailer numbers and contents, load information as required. Provides direction and information to PDI drivers. Instructs all non-PDI drivers on pertinent procedures. * Performs security tours through the distribution center, parking lot and around campus perimeter, using security tour verification system. Makes sure the building and doors are secure for the protection of assets and employees. Reports any suspicious activity to management. Monitors and reports adverse weather and road conditions. * Welcomes, registers, and directs visitors as needed. Checks visitors in and out during off hours using the Easy Lobby software. Issues temporary security cards, enters and deactivates security cards, and monitors card access system. Maintains log for temporary security cards that are issued. Assists and monitors employees at all access points into the building. * Prepares and submits detailed watch report for each shift worked. Completes incident reports when required. Completes any written reports as required, or directed by management. * Monitors fire and security alarm systems and responds to those alarms appropriately. If necessary, secures the facility to prevent damage, injuries, or loss of property or merchandise. * Conforms to uniform dress and appearance requirements per Security SOP. * Checks in and instructs employees picking up employee purchase. Secondary Responsibilities * Other duties as assigned by management. * Assists other security officers and departments as needed. * Attends and participates in quarterly department meetings. * Tests alarm systems. * Cleans and maintains Traffic Control Center and equipment. Education/Experience Required High school graduate or equivalent required. One to three years of military, police, law enforcement or similar work related experience preferred. Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check annually. Must have no restrictions preventing the carry and use of fire arms. Must be able to be trained and certified in CPR and AED use. Equipment Telephone, 2-way radio and CB radio, clock, keys, maps, copier, computer, Microsoft Office, flashlight, fire and security alarm system, EasyLobby system and Tour Verification System.
