Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated Engineering Section Leader with experience in CAS hardware development for our Tucson, AZ facility. We are in need of a Section Head to provide frontline management activities and leadership for approximately 15 engineers who develop new Control Actuation Systems (CAS) including Aerodynamic Tail Fin and Canard Steering Control Sections, Thrust Vector, Attitude and Divert Control Systems, Control Surface and Wing Deployment mechanisms, Stage Separation, Nosecone Ejection Systems, and more. The section head role includes technical oversight of our CAS development programs, technical development of people, training, performance management, hiring, and resource allocation.

The candidate will ensure two-way communication for section members; serve as the day-to-day liaison to the programs concerning employee job assignments, performance and recognition. Responsibilities also include coordinating program staffing needs and reductions, optimizing resource utilization and interviewing applicants.

As the manager for the section, the candidate will need to lead large, diverse teams of engineers by providing highly-skilled Mechanical Engineering design services across all program phases focused mainly on Missile Development including Motors, Gearboxes, Actuators, Packaging, Assembly, and Integration onto various naval, ground and air platforms. The section head may also be called upon to provide proposal support including cost ROMs, formal Basis of Estimates, project plans and technology maturity plans.

Additional Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Serving as the day-to-day liaison between section members and the programs they support across all program phases

  • Creatively applying mechanical engineering knowledge to efficiently solve complex design problems and make sound data-oriented technical conclusions.

Qualities You Must Have:

Education: B.S in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or related science degree

Typically, Ten (10) or more years of overall engineering experience in systems, electrical or mechanical design, preferably in the development of Control Actuation Systems in all development phases.

Typically, Five (5) or more years direct experience in hardware engineering design, development and production support

The ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualities We Value:

Education: MS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or related science degree

  • Prior leadership Experience is highly preferred (frontline or project leader)

  • Ability to build a collaborative network quickly that focuses on empowering employees, leading and motivating teams, and fostering collaboration

  • Experience in being an advocate for process improvement (eg CMMI, R6S), a team builder, and able to build strong relationships and effectively partner with internal resources.



  • Familiarity with Performance Development Processes

  • Proven ability to manage multiple and competing priorities

  • Experience with technical and cost proposal development, technical risk management, and managing to cost and schedule requirements for assigned tasks

  • Ability to multi-task and successfully manage multiple activities at any given time

  • Strong presentation and technical writing skills combined with knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
