The Department of Business Services at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for PC Maintenance Technician for Cavalier Computers. The University of Virginia Bookstore, Cavalier Computer division's PC Maintenance Technicians troubleshoot and resolve end-user hardware and software problems and ensure correct operation of personal computers and peripheral equipment. They address complex problems and will use experience and judgment in selecting among authorized procedures, seeking assistance when significant deviations are proposed, or when unprecedented problems arise.

They assist senior staff in developing approaches to problem-solving and anticipating issues. They may train or provide guidance to less experienced staff members. Their interactions are with fellow team members and coordinating team members; students, faculty, or staff clients; and external vendors or service providers. Incumbent possesses strong customer service and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot Windows and Apple mobile/desktop systems hardware and software problems for customer systems. Perform hardware repairs on Windows and Apple mobile/desktop systems. Use troubleshooting skills and experience to identify, research and resolve all technical problems that may occur in the operation of computer systems

  • Troubleshoot and resolve cell phone hardware and software issues including part replacement for Apple and Android phones.

  • Work directly with customers to resolve computer or phone issues using positive, outgoing customer service skills by communicating in-store, receiving incoming calls and responding to e-mails. Document solutions and repairs in work order tracking system. Use store inventory procedures to obtain replacement hardware parts.

  • Support personal computer processes and provide technical and operational assistance in the use of personal computers and PC software.

  • Assist in management and maintenance of computer and software license records, asset lists, etc.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education:  High School Diploma/GED

  • Experience: 1-year relevant experience

Anticipated Hiring Range: $16 - $17.31 hourly, commensurate with education and experience. This is a non-exempt level, benefited position. For more information on the benefits at UVA, visit hr.virginia.edu/benefits.
