Halifax Health is seeking a PBFS Manager for the Patient Business Financial Services Department.

Summary

The PBFS Manager will lead financial counseling, patient liability collections, and revenue cycle workflow automation. This position will be responsible for maintaining policies and procedures and assuring revenue cycle issues are addressed timely, accurately and professionally. Demonstrates leadership by setting standards, mentoring staff, monitoring performance, improving operations, and creating an environment of excellence in execution.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in HIM, business, accounting, or related healthcare field; Master's preferred

  • CPA, CMA, Six Sigma, or related healthcare licensures preferred

  • Minimum (5) years' experience in revenue cycle or a related healthcare field; financial counseling, patient registration, or billing experience preferred

  • Minimum (2) years' experience with technology integration or project management

  • Proven knowledge in Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party payor requirements, regulations and collection laws

  • Must have extensive knowledge with relevant hospital and physician software applications, along with standard office equipment and PC software

  • Strong leadership and management skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, capable of explaining procedures in writing/verbally

  • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills

  • General understanding of professional and technical billing

  • Knowledge of reimbursement methodologies

  • The ability to organize, prioritize, analyze, and implement daily tasks; must be a self-starter

  • Must be able to function and meet deadlines under stressful conditions

  • Must be able to manage a demanding work load as well as be flexible with regards to work hours.

  • Professionalism in interpersonal communication skills with sr. management, colleagues, and ancillary departments required

  • The ability to maintain confidentiality; knowledge of HIPAA laws

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee financial counseling and collections functions; assess operational effectiveness and act to improve performance

  • Manage patient follow-up workflow automation

  • Responsibilities include patient liability collections, mitigation of bad debt, and supporting the assistance of patients in securing Medicaid and other third party coverage when patient is unable to meet his/her obligations

  • Serve as primary liaison between PBFS and IT department

  • Oversee self-pay pricing strategy in compliance with federal price transparency laws

  • Ensures timely and professional follow-up on accounts to maximize cash flow

  • Manage budget and third-party vendor relationships

  • Maintains systems controls, documentation, and information to ensure timely account follow-up

  • Monitors all key performance indicators and acts to ensure all goals are met

  • Provides operating statistics, daily, monthly and as requested

  • Monitors DNFB, charity adjustments, write offs, and collections and gathers information to improve operations

  • Establishes performance procedures, workflows, and key indicators

  • Initiates additional support resources, including outsourcing, from outside vendors as deemed necessary

  • Ensures that customer service needs are addressed quickly in a professional manner

  • Acts to improve customer satisfaction based on patient/guarantor contacts and suggestions

  • Schedules operational meetings on a regular basis to ensure active communications with all employees

  • Demonstrates a positive and helpful demeanor with co-workers and customers

  • Ensures completion of all employee evaluations in a timely manner

  • Leads and displays Cornerstone principles

  • Keeps abreast of all regulations and standards to ensure compliance with orders or directives issued by duly constituted governmental/regulatory agencies or third party payers

  • Keeps abreast of all federal, state, and local regulations relating to the extension of credit, billing, and allowable follow up procedures

  • Manage third party and joint venture relationships

  • Performs other duties as assigned
