The Payroll Systems Supervisor is responsible for overseeing payroll system interfaces and operations, coordinating day-to-day training of the payroll staff, resolving escalated issues, and serving as a daily liaison with vendors and management. The Payroll Systems Supervisor requires both a broad and thorough knowledge of the payroll discipline and taxes in multi-state and multi company.
Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Payroll Processing, including pro-actively monitoring and driving issues to quick resolution.
Provide leadership and oversees all of the activities in the processing of paychecks and payroll data, including court-ordered deductions.
Responsible for payroll tax activations and assisting with compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
Coordinate and validate the calculation and reporting of tax liabilities to ADP and other agencies as applicable.
Execution of payroll special events (year end, escheat processing, special payments)
Responsible for the coordination and administration of assignments, monitors team progress, and maintains deadlines.
Develop team members and provide ongoing professional guidance and direction.
Leads payroll department efforts to identify and implement new payroll processes as needed.
System expert for all time keeping and payroll systems
Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous priorities and achieve results without close supervision.
Must be able to research and effectively communicate with employees, vendors, and others, as needed.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for responding to payroll tax/withholding questions and special request from employees, internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies
Responsible for accurate review, setup and processing of court-ordered involuntary deductions including responding to or communicating with agencies regarding the orders
Other related duties as required and assigned within the Payroll Department
Required Education and Experience:
Three or Five years of progressive complex payroll processing (2 years with leadership responsibility).
Comprehensive knowledge of payroll taxes (Federal, state and local tax regulations) and deductions.
Must be familiar with payroll software and procedures used for processing paychecks.
Generates strategic thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills
Excellent written and verbal skills as this position communicates via phone and e-mail with sites, employees and managers.
Able to comprehend and review complex payroll work with accuracy while working under time constraints.
Must be able to operate office machines, including a computer, copier, fax and 10-key by touch as well as make arithmetic calculations.
Maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population. Supervisor should show a strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
