POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Payroll, the Payroll Specialist supports all payroll accounting operations including processing payroll, payroll accruals, monthly close processing, account reconciliation, and preparation for annual audit, with primary focus on payroll and customer service. Leverages industry knowledge and best practices to promote the mission and vision of Howard Brown Health as well as supports culture enhancement and management efforts.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Supports the execution of timely, accurate and efficient payroll functioning focused on payroll administration
- Demonstrates exceptional customer service competency when sourcing answers and timely response/follow up to questions when necessary
- Ensures timely and accurate transaction(s) execution such as setup and process of new hires, position changes and terminations for each corresponding payroll
- Maintains and updates employee records in the payroll system as needed
- Maintains electronic personnel files of all staff pay, benefit and/or allocation changes
- Reviews and audits payroll data each payroll to ensure accuracy of all transactions and to support, as needed the Payroll Team to ensure timely execution of payroll
- Interfaces and meets with human resources on weekly basis to troubleshoot questions and/or issues are they arise as well as demonstrate proactive functioning
- Interfaces with HBH managing leaders and, when necessary, HBH employees to ensure all hours worked are entered on timesheets and all timesheets are approved by respective supervisor and employees
- Audits benefit bills to ensure new hires and terminations are being processed by the insurance company
- Updates and reconciles Benefit Spreadsheets each month.
- Ensures timely delivery of various reports including routine and ad hoc reports; generates ad hoc reporting as requested
- Complies with all relevant legislation and regulations associated with processing payroll
- Other duties as assigned and/or requested
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Associates degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in Accounting, Business Administration, or related discipline preferred.
- Minimum one (1) year professional experience providing payroll support required. Experience in a healthcare environment preferred. Experience processing multiple pay types and schedules (union, non-union, etc)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES (K/S/A)
- Knowledge of GAAP and general payroll processing principles
- Ability to demonstrate attention to detail
- Ability to handle a high volume of detailed work while meeting tight deadlines and maintaining accuracy.
- Functional and proficient knowledge of various technologies including, but not limited to MS Suite and payroll and finance software platforms including UKG, Blackbaud, Financial Edge and Power Plan
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Effective communication competencies including written, verbal and listening
- Strong knowledge of research approaches and the ability to apply relevant approach toward desired outcome(s)
- Strong problem solving acumen and the ability to engage for supervisory support when appropriate
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding and acceptance of equity, inclusion and diversity concepts, and that they are broader than just race, ethnicity, and gender
- Ability to work affirmatively with gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) and HIV positive patients
