Senior Payroll Specialist

Job Overview:

The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing and overseeing the company's payroll functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of payroll and compliance with state and federal regulations. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with extensive knowledge of payroll systems, tax regulations, and experience in handling complex payroll processes for a large and diverse workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Processing: Accurately process bi-weekly payrolls, including salaried and hourly employees, bonuses, commissions, and other compensation-related items.

  • Compliance: Ensure all payroll activities are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax filings, W2 processing, wage and hour laws, and record-keeping requirements.

  • System Management: Maintain and update payroll systems and software, ensuring data integrity and security. Identify and implement system improvements.

  • Reporting: Prepare and analyze payroll reports for management, including earnings, deductions, taxes, and other payroll-related data.

  • Audits: Lead internal and external payroll audits, providing proper control definitions and necessary documentation and resolving any discrepancies.

  • Benefits Administration: Coordinate payroll-related aspects of employee benefits, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and other voluntary deductions imports.

  • Customer Service: Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries and issues from employees and management promptly and professionally.

  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate payroll processes and procedures, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of payroll experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.

  • Certifications: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is preferred.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., UKG, ADP, Paychex, Workday) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position.
