Position Information
Position Summary: This position performs the administration of the day-to-day operations of the payroll functions and duties. Must be able to exhibit a high level of discretion and commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality regarding payroll and employee information. Must work well under pressure, meet deadlines, prioritize appropriately, and be able to work independently under moderate supervision. This position also provides miscellaneous accounting support.
Job Responsibilities:
Administrative
Processing monthly and biweekly payroll efficiently and accurately
Upholding strict confidentiality with payroll and other sensitive employee information
Collecting and verifying timekeeping information and appropriate approvals
Performing reconciliation from the timekeeping system in Payroll, ensuring data integrity.
Updating personnel information in the payroll system, as needed
Compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents related to payroll
Maintaining accurate employee information in the payroll system
Creating and distributing payroll reports/schedules (audit, 990, other)
Answering payroll-related questions or comments
Preparing and submitting payroll reports and forms as required by state and federal law
Preparing Form 941
Reconciling payroll entries to appropriate payroll general ledger accounts
Preparing payroll related journal entries
Coordinating with retirement plan advisors and submitting reports
Assisting Human Resources
Reviewing and approving check requests
Coordinating sales tax audit and workman's compensation audit
Performing Perkins bank reconciliation
Coordinating athletic medical for student athletes
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Education Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, math, or related field preferred. Experience may be substituted for degree.
Experience One to five years related payroll or accounting experience preferred; higher education experience helpful

& Abilities Accuracy and attention to detail
Strong organizational and time management skills to balance and prioritize work
10-key by touch
Ability to complete tasks under demanding time schedules.
Ability to work both as a team and independently with minimal supervision
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to handle multiple time-sensitive functions and changing assignments.
Experience preparing journal entries.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
Experience in preparing and formatting Excel spreadsheets
Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion.
Considerable judgment is required to work independently and make decisions based on precedent and university policy
Understand and support the mission and strategic plan of Texas Lutheran University
Physical Demands:
Work requires normal concentration with the ability to tolerate interruptions. Occasionally bend, stoop, and squat. May work at a desk for extended periods. May require long hours during periods of high activity.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed indoors in a traditional climate-controlled office. Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts. Requires ability to cope gracefully with stress.
Organizational Data:
This is an exempt position, which does not supervise other staff but may supervise student workers.
