The Undergraduate Intern position is a developmental assignment that provides interns with real-time work projects, leadership development opportunities, as well as an opportunity to learn about the company and the airline industry. Work projects involve assignments that are relevant to American's current business needs and opportunities. Interns are afforded travel privileges enabling them to connect to the international and domestic destinations that American Airlines serves.

Description:

The intern will support the Payroll Operations department located at the Rio West Building, Tempe, AZ.

Principal duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist in the development and documentation of processes and policies

  • Assist in the development and implementation of initiatives around process improvement

  • Assist in a quality assurance capacity for data and processes

  • Assist with accounting job duties which may include: review of accounting statement schedules for accuracy and consistency, preparation or review of journal entries, assist with general ledger account reconciliations

Job Qualifications

An ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university as an undergraduate or graduate student with interest in Accounting or Information Systems.

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and motivation

  • Ability to work well in a diverse team environment

  • Ability to work under pressure and display flexibility and creativity

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

  • Comfortable in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint

VIEW JOBS 9/13/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-12-12T00:00 Summary: This position is responsible for processing high volume multi-state semi-monthly payroll and ensuring delivery of accurate and timely payroll reports as well as resolving all payroll issues. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Processes and distributes payroll in a timely and accurate manner. 2. Reviews and audits automated timecard reports for hours recorded and to ensure proper payment of funds while adhering to tight payroll deadlines. 3. Responds to employee inquiries regarding payroll, taxes, and direct deposit as needed. 4. Distributes paid time off benefit reports to centers for auditing purposes. 5. Processes final checks and/or manual checks due to payroll adjustments as needed. 6. Responds to inquiries from accounting department regarding payroll expenses. 7. Prepares bi-weekly, and quarterly reports in order to complete reporting for various state and local agencies. 8. Maintains computer and hard copy employee payroll files. 9. Enters all employee change information into payroll system, including new employees, terminations, pay rate, and changes in status. 10. Processes 401(k) via submission of payments to investment company and reconciliation of accounts. 11. Assists Payroll Manager in developing daily and long-term processes and procedures to help streamline the payroll process. Assist in developing training processes for managers, supervisors and employees. 12. Maintains confidentiality of information. 13. Displays a neat, clean, professional appearance at all times. 14. Exhibits behavior that promotes harmony and goodwill among clients and co-workers. Familiarity with ADP preferred.
