Payroll Associate

The Payroll Associate is responsible for completing the day-to-day administrative duties associated with processing payroll. He/she will act as the front-line respondent to all internal and external inquiries related to Team Member pay and will provide the highest level of customer service while maintaining strict confidentiality at all times. The Payroll Associate is also tasked with submitting and tracking tickets with Niagara's payroll provider, ensuring proper follow-through and completion. This position may, on occasion, act in a limited capacity as the backup to the Payroll Department on tasks such as computing wages, deductions, or other items related to preparing manual checks.

Detailed Description

  • Perform periodic internal audits of various payroll areas

  • Maintain garnishment processing audits to insure 3rd party processing is timely and accurate

  • Act as liason between payroll vendor, and team member to resove garnishment issues in a timely manner

  • Monitor open cases with payroll provider and facilitate resolution

  • Apply payroll knowledge in analyzing payroll results

  • Assist with the development processes focused on quality and efficiency and make recommendations for improvements.

  • Monitor email inquiries from shared payroll inbox and respond to team members as necessary

  • Backup payroll processing as needed

  • Assist in year-end activities including auditing amendments, Tax filings, W-2C's

  • Responds to all internal and external inquiries including but not limed to, garnishments, VOE's, workers comp wage statements and EDD wage verifications; in a professional and timely manner

  • Submits and manages tickets to payroll provider, ensuring proper follow-up, completion and escalation if necessary

  • Opens, scans, sorts, and distributes mail for the Payroll Department

  • Adds/edits electronic Team Member records in HR/Payroll systems

  • Computes wages, deductions and other tasks related to preparing manual checks in absence of Payroll Staff or as directed by Payroll Manager

  • Other duties and projects as assigned

Work Experience/KSA's

  • Required:

  • 2-4 years Experience in payroll or other related field

  • 2-4 years Experience in Position

  • experience may include a combination of work experience and education

  • Preferred:

  • 2-4 years Experience in Workday Payroll

  • 2-4 years Experience in multi-location and multi-state payroll

  • experience may include a combination of work experience and education

Competencies

  • Excellent verbal and written skills, interpersonal skills, and computer literacy

  • Knowledge of Workday strongly preferred

  • Recent hands-on US payroll experience preferred

  • Experience with audit procedures, tax and accounting practices preferred

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all human resources/payroll related matters

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of human resources/payroll.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word; Excel; Power Point, and Human Resource and time and attendance systems.

  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail; strong drive for results.

  • Proven track record as honest, trustworthy and respectful with team members across the organization.

  • Ability to adapt to a wide range of priorities.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, ever changing environment.

  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.

  • Demonstrates dependability by consistently being at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance.

Education

  • Minimum Required:

  • High School Diploma

  • Preferred:

  • Associate's Degree in any educational field

Certification/License:

  • Required: None

  • Preferred: Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)

Foreign Language

  • Required: None Required,
  • Preferred: Minimum Professional Proficiency, Spanish
