Payroll Assistant - Waterbury
Reports to: Employee Payroll and Benefits Manager
The payroll assistant is a full-time position that performs a wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities, including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions on a weekly basis. The position is located in the human resources department. The role of the position is to ensure employees are paid accurately and in a timely manner, in accordance with federal and state regulations and internal guidelines.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Process employee changes as necessary (tax withholding, direct deposit, liens and garnishments, etc.)
Resolves payroll discrepancies by reviewing and analyzing information
Responds and resolves payroll inquiries in a timely manner
Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures
Performs routine clerical duties which include copying, faxing, emailing and filing
Updates various spreadsheets to maintain accurate records
Create and run reports within payroll system
Pre-screen W-2s annually to check for accuracy
Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
Accomplishes related results for other duties as needed
High School diploma or equivalent
Must be proficient in MS Word and MS Excel
Strong communication and organizational skills
Knowledge of federal and state withholdings, garnishments, and other types of payroll deductions.
Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast paced environment
At least 3-5 years in a payroll function; ADP WFN a plus
Must pay close attention to detail
