Payroll Assistant - Waterbury

Reports to: Employee Payroll and Benefits Manager

Job Description

The payroll assistant is a full-time position that performs a wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities, including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions on a weekly basis. The position is located in the human resources department. The role of the position is to ensure employees are paid accurately and in a timely manner, in accordance with federal and state regulations and internal guidelines.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Process employee changes as necessary (tax withholding, direct deposit, liens and garnishments, etc.)

  • Resolves payroll discrepancies by reviewing and analyzing information

  • Responds and resolves payroll inquiries in a timely manner

  • Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures

  • Performs routine clerical duties which include copying, faxing, emailing and filing

  • Updates various spreadsheets to maintain accurate records

  • Create and run reports within payroll system

  • Pre-screen W-2s annually to check for accuracy

  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential

  • Accomplishes related results for other duties as needed

Requirements/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Must be proficient in MS Word and MS Excel

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Knowledge of federal and state withholdings, garnishments, and other types of payroll deductions.

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast paced environment

  • At least 3-5 years in a payroll function; ADP WFN a plus

  • Must pay close attention to detail
