The Payroll Analyst is responsible for execution of payroll processing, reporting, analytics, and system/process updating and streamlining; handles processing and reporting for multiple employer entities including multi-state union and non-union payrolls with varying pay frequencies.

Full-cycle payroll preparation, processing, auditing, distribution, and reporting.
Advanced and technical reporting, analysis, data management, audit, and project support.
User support, troubleshooting and resolution relating to payroll and timekeeping systems.
Process improvement, streamlining, audit, and documentation necessary to optimize processing workflows, controls and data integrity.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Complete full-cycle processing and associated recordkeeping, audit, reporting, and technical administration for assigned payrolls.
Ensure that all processed transactions are authorized, documented, and conform to company policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable statutes and regulations.
Provide periodic and ad-hoc reporting, metrics, analysis, and research to management.
Prepare and organize complex data into audience appropriate reports, summaries, and exhibits.
Support payroll team with custom reporting design, audit, and data management tools.
Lead and coordinate response to audit-related data requests including coordination of data collection, validation, research, and delivery.
Regularly review and improve controls and recommend automated solutions for manual processes.
Propose and implement process improvements to produce efficient processing, excellent outcomes, and audit-ready documentation.
Conduct regular audits to ensure that tax calculation, wage processing, and tax-related reporting results are processing correctly.
Analyze departmental metrics; identify and communicate opportunities for improvement and propose updated workflows, controls, and training needs.
Prepare, reconcile, and distribute data reports using payroll and timekeeping system reporting tools.
Create reporting and automated reconciliation processes for invoices and related payment requests, including benefit trusts, retirement plans, and union dues reporting and remittance.
Assess and resolve system issues; work with system support services and HRIS team to resolve functionality or system deficiencies.
Provide advanced technical support for employees and managers using corporate systems for timesheet submission, time reporting, access to wage and tax statements, and portal registration.
Respond to employee and manager requests, inquiries, and correspondence; support departmental service level commitments to all employees.
Produce written and verbal instructions and training to employees regarding the use of payroll-related systems including entry of timesheets, online access of pay statements, and payroll self-service features.
Develop job aids, process flow diagrams, work instructions, and other information reference resources as needed to support intended use of systems and adherence to internal controls.
Ensure payroll processing and reporting complies with all federal, state and local laws, collective bargaining agreements and all corporate policies and procedures.
Create, test, and maintain work instructions for key processing and reporting responsibilities as necessary to conform to Quality System requirements.
Provide assistance with special projects as assigned.
Maintain accurate and current electronic and physical files.

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of coursework and experience in directly-related field is required
4+ years of recent experience in a relevant payroll processing or similar position with direct responsibility for payroll audits and analysis is required
Experience providing user support for payroll-related systems is required
Coursework or experience in Human Resources or Accounting or related field is preferred
Experience with union and multi-state payroll processing is preferred
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or equivalent preferred
Solid understanding of payroll processing concepts and procedures, including both formal and self-audit practices.
Basic understanding of federal and state wage and tax calculation requirements, wage attachment processing and reporting requirements.
Advanced proficiency in use of payroll processing and timekeeping software, including extensive understanding of advanced/custom reporting functionality
Proven ability to manage priorities and time-sensitive deliverables and ability to identify and escalate problems appropriately.
Strong quantitative and analytical thinking skills; ability to trace and reconstruct transactions to resolve issues
Proven ability to clearly identify, articulate and illustrate process flows, inputs, controls and outputs.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Understanding of appropriate handling of confidential and sensitive data.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products at the following levels:
Word, Outlook: Basic level of skill
Excel: Intermediate level of skill
Access: Basic level of skill
Experience using ADP Workforce Now HR/Payroll system and Kronos Workforce Ready time and attendance systems preferred.
Advanced Excel skills preferred.
