The Payroll Analyst will work under the Payroll Operations Manager, partnering to ensure accurate processing and recording of the company payroll. This role will assist in calculating payroll checks for salaried, hourly and commissioned employees (including all deductions for taxes, insurance, and benefits), while maintaining a focus on exceptions resolution and delivering superior customer service. In addition to baseline payroll processing support, this position will be critical to enabling our continuous improvement agenda. The ideal candidate will identify opportunities to optimize our Payroll infrastructure (from systems to processes and procedures), quantify the impact of operational pain points to influence change, leverage relationships within our stakeholder network to secure buy-in (when appropriate), and spearhead internal transformation efforts within the Payroll function.

Responsibilities:

  • Process multi state payroll for a diverse employee population, including all deductions for taxes, benefits etc., according to payroll schedules; process off-cycle payrolls, as required

  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforce adherence to requirements; advise management on needed actions

  • Leverage systems (onboarding, time-keeping, etc.) to proactively address process gaps and/or manual keying errors adversely affecting payroll processing

  • Perform various system audits and reporting reviews to ensure accurate payroll processing

  • Perform real-time root cause analysis on each issue in order to identify gaps in existing solutions and assist in developing and implementing new preventive solutions.

  • Find opportunities to reduce volumes, improve accuracy and deliver efficiencies through automation of manual work, elimination of unnecessary or redundant processes, etc.

  • Review, implement and maintain appropriate internal controls, ensuring strict and consistent compliance and adapt high-level user requirements into functional processes to create and distribute payroll reports as needed

  • Partner with fellow Krispy Kremers from Human Resources/Company Operations/Support Center on various projects and initiatives as needed

  • Perform other duties/Special Projects as assigned

  • Pull and distribute management reporting (including team/functional KPIs) on a routine basis; provide ad hoc analysis, as needed, to support baseline business needs

  • Create, maintain and update relevant Payroll documentation for recurring processes and procedures

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Finance related field preferred

  • 2-3 years of payroll experience required; 5-7 years and/or CPP designation preferred

  • Ultimate Software (UltiPro) and Kronos experience preferred

  • Strong knowledge of standard payroll concepts, practices, procedures and tax laws

  • Must possess exceptional organizational, time management, and customer service skills

  • Critical thinking, attention to detail and multi-tasking skills required

  • Position requires a high level of confidentiality

  • Ability to work in a team environment is required

  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks, as well as to accept direction on given assignments

  • Able to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and work with frequent change, delays or unexpected events

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office

The Payroll Analyst III performs processing activities and provides excellent customer service to employees across RAI and its operating units. The position will work in a team environment supporting biweekly and monthly payrolls, ensuring employee pay is correct and policies are followed. Additionally, this position requires knowledge in payroll tax administration as well as strong analytical and communication skills. Reports to: Senior Manager Payroll Core Relationships: Internal - Payroll and Tax/External - ADP Tax Services Geographic Scope: Local ACCOUNTABILITIES * Support biweekly and monthly payroll processing, ensuring payroll deadlines are met * Maintain employee tax records to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations * Complete company registrations for federal, state, and local taxing jurisdictions * Partner with ADP to research and resolve tax filing, tax payment, and registration issues * Enter and monitor payroll transactions each pay period * Perform pre-processing and post-processing audits * Research and answer payroll-related questions, as appropriate * Monitor payroll interfaces including inputs and outputs EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE Experience Required * Federal, state, and local tax knowledge required * 2 - 4 years in corporate payroll environment required * Proficient in the use of office technologies (MS Excel, Outlook, and Word) * Experience with SAP Payroll (Employee Central (EC) Payroll) preferred Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills * Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies * Demonstrated technical aptitude to understand data flow and system interaction * Strong oral and written communication skills * Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required * Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience * Payroll certification desirable (FPC or CPP) BENEFICIAL * Proven track record of continuous process improvement * Experience with ADP's Smart Compliance system QUALIFYING QUESTIONS FOR APPLICANTS * Do you have recent experience with employee tax administration? * Do you have knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws? * Are you proficient with common excel functionality including VLOOKUP, pivot tables, etc?
