The Day to Day:

A typical day as a Payroll Analyst II might include the following:

  • Managing and developing relationship with great clients.

  • Being responsible for various aspects of the client's payroll, including administration, distribution, and record-keeping.

  • Providing accurate data in the preparation of the client's payroll in a fast-paced, high volume environment.

  • Payroll Processing: Input, verify and transmit payroll data for firm clients.

    Requires communication with clients to gather necessary information. Some payrolls may be complex in nature and involve reviewing work of the Payroll Analyst I. Process bonus payments and other special payrolls upon request.

    Prepare check requests for payroll reimbursement, taxes due, child support payments, etc. Deliver reports and checks to clients. Set up new earnings codes, deductions and accumulators as required.

    Prepare schedules for file. Update payroll software with any tax rate changes and update G/L interface as needed.

  • Employee File Maintenance: Update the payroll system for new hires, terminations, salary changes, department changes, or any other pertinent payroll information received from the client.

    Process requests for payroll deduction changes, including changes to tax withholding amounts, garnishments or fringe benefit deductions. Update account information and amounts for direct deposit as necessary. Coordinate deduction changes with any annual limitations on cafeteria and retirement plan limitations. Retain client and employee change information in accordance with firm policies.

  • Reports: Prepare quarterly payroll tax reports as needed.

    Prepare payroll journal entry reports as needed. Assist with verification and distribution of W2s at year-end. Process FMLA and LOA correspondence each pay period during duration of FMLA/LOA, for correct hours/dollars paid, and manually adjust deductions accordingly.

    Income Verifications: Complete mortgage and SUI verifications, if requested.

  • Other: Assist with workers' compensation audits, preparation of employee census data, uploading retirement plan contribution data to TPA or custodian, process year end fringe benefit additions, and respond to tax notices as necessary. Other duties may include reviewing quarterly payroll tax returns, consulting on compensation and benefits questions from clients, and onboarding of new clients and business including the interpretation of a variety of client data.

Specific activities may change from time to time. * Lead small to medium process improvement initiatives, which includes documenting existing and new business work flows at National General and the Third Party Administrators that support Accident and Health products and processes * Analyze existing processes for improvements and provide solutions to management, operations and business leaders * Translate high level business requirements into documented functional requirements * Work with other departments to draft written communications for both internal and external audiences * Identify opportunities to improve business productivity or service to our agents and customers, recommend solution alternatives, and coordinate with other areas including Third Party Administrators to implement improvements * Facilitate discussions with production system users to analyze business requirements and recommend solution alternatives * Lead and monitor Operations implementations including new products and system releases * Identify opportunities to improve Operation strategies, business productivity or service to our agents and customers, recommend solution alternatives, and coordinate with other areas to implement improvements * Lead initiatives for Operations and coordinate with departments participating in the Operations initiatives including scheduling and coordinating team member deliverables, monitor implementation progress, and adjust when goals are not being met * Research production issues; provide solutions and/or track & monitor progress on any IT fixes needed to resolve issue * Act as liaison between Operations Supervisor/Manager, IT & Testers/Business Analysts for Operations initiatives * Anticipate potential problems, develop contingencies and solution alternatives, and recommend a solution with consideration of resources, prioritization and financial impact * Provide clarification/decisions for questions arising from IT and Testers during project implementation * Communicate effectively throughout the organization to successfully influence project scope, design and outcome * Collaborate with departments outside of Operations, including information technology, product line, marketing, claims, and legal compliance * Build a network of relationships throughout the National General organization * Build a network of relationships with Vendors and Third Party Administrators Minimum Skills and Competencies: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
