Major responsibilities

  • Detail all payroll liabilities by establishing employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer social security, unemployment, and worker compensation payment

  • Prepare for department heads relevant weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports

  • Perform any other duties that arise in the course of normal business operations

  • Supporting all internal and external audits related to payroll

  • Using federal and state regulations and guidelines, ensure company compliance

  • Handle reconciliation of employee deductions and other relevant liabilities

  • Updating payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job title and department/division transfers

  • Providing payroll information by answering questions and requests

  • Handle payroll discrepancies through information collection and analysis

  • Payroll information management via collecting, calculating, and entering data

  • Continue implementation of established policies and procedures to maintain payroll operations, reporting changes where necessary

  • Organize and compile summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages in order to draft relevant reports

  • Review source documents with necessary verification

  • Protect confidential payroll operation information and maintain employee confidence

VIEW JOBS 11/13/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-11T00:00 80 The Human Resources Generalist coordinates recruitment and selection, benefits, workers' compensation, unemployment compensation activities, payroll, and counseling for staff members at one or more life plan communities or one or more home health and hospice locations in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, regulations, and laws ensuring effective delivery of employment services to staff members. Essential Activities and Tasks Payroll, Benefits Administration and Reporting * Ensures accurate and timely data entry directly into the HRMS or reporting of information is provided to the corporate payroll team for data entry on all staff hires, terminations, data changes, disciplines, or any other information required to be tracked through the system. * If payroll is completed on-site at a life plan community, performs payroll functions through accurate processing and maintenance of payroll-related data. * Processes all payroll information. * Reviews and approves or gains approval for payroll-related changes. * Conducts time, attendance, tax, and wage entries. * Executes garnishments as directed by state agencies. * Follows up with staff members and/or location managers to resolve issues. * Generates and distributes reports as necessary (i.e. employee information, accruals, turnover, salary roster, statistical data, etc.) * Keeps abreast of relevant federal, state, and local regulations and laws pertaining to wages, labor, and payroll. * Responds to and completes wage and employment verifications in a timely manner. * Coordinates workers' compensation activities, including processing claims and bills, providing reports, tracking all accidents, establishing and maintaining relationships with preferred providers, partnering with the third party administrator, and developing and maintaining policies and procedures aimed at reducing workers' compensation expenses. Allows for management review prior to submitting. * Coordinates unemployment compensation activities, including submitting requested information and providing appropriate and complete information to reduce unemployment compensation payments. Allows for management review prior to submitting. * Provides benefit education, counseling, and administration of all company-sponsored benefits programs during the open enrollment period and throughout the rest of the year (i.e. medical, dental, vision, supplemental life, short and long-term disability, 403(b), etc.). * Informs employees about the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services, and trains managers on the proper use of EAP. Contacts EAP when services are needed for the location as a whole, such as grief counseling. * Assists with promotional activities for wellness programs, health fairs, retirement savings benefits, and the presentation of new vendor materials specific to the location. Human Resources Operations Management * Assists in interpreting, educating, and mediating to resolve questions and concerns pertaining to HR policies and procedures from staff members and location management and ensures appropriate and consistent application and practice. Recruitment, Selection, and Onboarding * Assists with development and maintains an effective system for recruiting candidates for open positions, including internal job postings, external job advertisements, attendance at job fairs, holding hiring events, partnering with local schools, and other means. * Assists with development and maintains an effective system for selecting quality staff, including employment application reviews, screening applicants, practicing behavioral interviewing techniques, and coaching managers to effectively interview. * Assists with development and maintains an efficient pre-employment onboarding system, including conducting reference checks/employment verifications, background checks, drug screening, fingerprinting, and other tasks. * Ensures that all new hire computer user requests are submitted to the IS service desk in a timely manner. * Assists with coordinating and implementing new hire orientation. Quality, Compliance, and Risk Management * Ensures that the location is in compliance with current applicable federal and state employment regulations and laws. * Ensures that personnel files are secure and documentation contained is compliant with current company standards and employment guidelines, regulations, and laws (i.e. Form I-9, income tax forms, reference checks, HIPAA regulations, etc.). * Assists with Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requirements and serves as an FMLA resource to location management and staff members. * Maintains confidentiality of all personnel information accordance with company standards and employment guidelines, regulations, and laws. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education * High school diploma or equivalent required. * Bachelor's degree in human resources or in a related field preferred. Experience * Three years experience in human resources required. * Two years experience in payroll required. * Knowledge of employment guidelines, regulations, and laws preferred. * Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the internet required. * Proficiency with an HRMS, ideally ADP, preferred. * Proficiency with an applicant tracking system (ATS) preferred. Other Requirements * Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. * Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
