Accounting Specialist 1

The Accounting Specialist will be responsible for performing a variety of accounting and payroll functions and transactions. The individual in this role will use established accounting principles, concepts, and practices to review and reconcile electronic payroll records. This position prepares and processes fiscal transactions using methods and practices of fiscal and financial records keeping, as well as executes variety of payroll entries in HRIS system while adhering to parameters contained in the State of Arizona Accounting Manual.

What will I be doing in this job?

Performing entry level accounting-related tasks within an automated fiscal services system

Handling critical recurring payroll functions that include auditing and verifying accuracy

Monitoring payroll transactions for compliance with state and federal regulations, and in accordance with internal ADHS specific provisions

Reviewing and reconciling payroll requests

Applying accounting principles and practices within government institutions

Analyzing payroll reports containing varying criteria to attest to proper representation of payroll data

Performing complex calculations associated with payroll analysis

Gathering, compiling and reconciling fiscal data

Preparing reports summarizing financial transactions and monitor activity for correctness

Examining and verifying fiscal transactions for payroll and employee expense reimbursements

Ensuring payroll accuracy while cross-referencing data on multiple software databases

Establishing standard work by creating, clarifying and sharing information about the most efficient method to perform an existing task

Communicating details relating to payroll concepts

Instructing stakeholders on various documentation requirements, policy updates and discrepancies

Providing excellent customer service to all ADHS employees by fielding questions and presenting solutions to problems relating to payroll subject matter

Providing expert instruction to field personnel concerning federal and statewide regulations and required documentation

Conducting general administrative duties including filing, mail distribution and record retention

What does this job require?

Requires high school diploma or GED

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Knowledge of the principles, concepts, practices, methods, and techniques of government accounting

Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of automated accounting systems

Extensive knowledge of reference materials such as federal regulations, Arizona Revised Statutes, SAAM, applicable agency manuals, and policies and procedures

Advanced communication skills, both oral and written

Advanced interpersonal skills

Group facilitation skills

Excellent analytical and interpretation skills

Substantial skill in work organization and accomplishment

Considerable skill in techniques required to maintain accounting records through automated accounting systems

Effective time management skills

Understand, interpret and apply the fundamental principles of accounting and general fiscal and financial record keeping

Ability to effectively analyze and communicate financial data

Ability to speak effectively in front of internal groups of employees

Maintain ledgers and journals

What are the preferred qualifications for this job?

Prefer 12 semester hours of accounting courses

Two years of payroll experience

This team member will specifically be able to implement their international payroll knowledge with the opportunity to grow as a Stock Administration Analyst. The Payroll Processor will ensure accurate processing and recording of the company's payroll while working closely with our Stock Administration Manager to provide support as needed. Sound knowledge of German and UK payroll is desired, and the initiative to continue growing your knowledge goes a long way.
