Job Description:

This position is responsible for performing accounting activities and providing information to support the reporting of financial results for Thomson Reuters on a monthly basis and partners with Financial Operations to leverage systems and resources. The individual in this role provides critical accounting support for multiple functions and makes recommendations for improving accounting activities, processes, and the collection, and reporting of financial-performance information. Additionally, this position is a resource within the Accounting Organization regarding financial and analysis issues with the respective and in promoting a seamless customer interface experience.

The Accounting Manager position supports the Accounting Organization's efforts to provide analysis for the respective business units within the Thomson Reuters organization. This role will report to the Director and will work closely with colleagues across the world to ensure that business requirements are supported appropriately.

Primary Areas of Accountability:

  • Manage the payroll accounting monthly activities with a complete understanding of the payroll subledger process and the financial framework in an SAP environment. This includes investigating and determining potential impact of different activities on the financial statements such as complex payroll areas like international assignees

  • Ensure that accounting procedures and controls are consistently applied and are compliant with both statutory and internal accounting policies

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with Controllership teams by providing regular and frequent communications

  • Assume a leadership role in the design, implementation, and ongoing improvement of scalable financial systems to ensure organizational consistency and support to the growth of the business

  • Provide support for quarterly financial reviews and annual audit with both internal and external auditors

  • Maintain responsibility for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for processes owned

  • Effectively manage payroll file SAP subledger processing and collaborate with Payroll Operations to drive the resolution of kick out items

  • Provide specific oversight to payroll related balance sheet accounts and escalate and drive the resolution of problem areas

  • Manage payroll accounting statistical reporting and analysis on behalf of respective controllership teams

  • Establish reporting and metrics to track progress, quality and process of payroll balance sheet reconciliations

  • Facilitate the review of aged payroll balance sheet reconciliation open items with Controller teams;

  • Review, assess, document and implement opportunities to standardize payroll accounting functions and processes

  • Provide training to Controller teams on Payroll accounting

  • Demonstrate business acumen by leveraging indirect resources and operating effectively in a matrix environment

  • Identify team and individual development opportunities and create a targeted development plan to improve skills, build bench strength, and promote knowledge sharing

  • Develop and communicate clear expectations for work with internal groups and departments to ensure satisfaction with services provided

  • Maintain technical skills in areas of expertise through review of research, training, and communication within the discipline to support a dynamic, high-volume business environment

Requirements/Education and Previous Work Experience

Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree required

  • MBA a plus

  • CPA or CMA certification preferred

  • 5 10+ years progressive finance or accounting experience including interaction with corporate and business unit management

  • Integrated financial systems experience preferred (SAP, SAS FM and BEX)

Knowledge and Skills Inventory:

  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and IFRS

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Tax, SEC and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements

  • Technical knowledge operations analysis, transfer pricing, working capital, budgeting and forecasting

  • Effective written, verbal and interpersonal skills; ability to present to a wide audience including senior leaders within Accounting Organizations and the businesses we support

  • Ability to manage a project team and trouble shoot issue proactively; escalating situations as appropriate

  • Strong collaboration and leadership skills; proven ability to effectively transfer knowledge to build team competence

  • Act as a go-to person for internal customers; highly responsive and committed to results with a strong customer orientation

  • Demonstrates ability to coordinate financial data across organization boundaries and geographies

  • Ability to promote individual development of team members

  • SAP, Data Warehouse, Business Objects and SAS FM knowledge

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
