L3 Applied Defense Solutions currently has an opening for a Payroll Accountant at our Columbia, MD office.
The Timesheet & Payroll Accountant will work with minimal supervision performing accounting duties to record, classify, examine, and analyze payroll and timesheets for employees and subcontractors. The accountant will collect, summarize, and analyze cost data for use in operational trends and preparing cost and financial statements. This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager.
Manage employee and subcontractor timesheets through the use of Deltek Time & Expense system, including managing the division's indirect project workforce, new employee and subcontractor setups, and ensuring that all weekly timesheets are processed accurately and timely.
Work with the Project Control department to accurately setup subcontractors in the Time & Expense system, and process weekly timecard extractions for all subcontractors.
Work with employees and managers to research and resolve all timesheet and payroll related issues, and ensure any necessary timesheet corrections are processed and posted each week.
Manage employee leave balances in the Deltek Time & Expense system, confirming leave balances are appropriately accrued each week and reconcile to those in the Corporate Shared Services and general ledger systems.
Support month end closing process, including preparing payroll account reconciliations and journal entries related to roles and responsibilities.
Process biweekly payroll to consist of submitting division's payroll files to Corporate Shared Services, reconciling data extracted from the timekeeping system to labor distributions in the Accounting system and payroll registers received from Shared Services, as well as preparing payroll calculations for new hires and terminated employees.
Applying an understanding of accounting principles in the analysis of financial data.
Evaluating multiple source data, applying financial and accounting principles and techniques, industry, business, professional, government and company standards.
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant discipline(s), industry practices, trends, and applications.
Sharing responsibility of self-development with immediate supervisor.
Performing additional related assignments as needed.
This position can be hired at a Level 3 or Level 4 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.
3 years of relevant accounting experience.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or finance field. Equivalent experience with a DOD contracting company may be used in lieu of a degree.
Experience with payroll administration and timesheet administration for a government contractor.
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Intermediate Microsoft Word and PowerPoint Skills.
Team player with the ability to deploy where needed.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
Sound interpersonal skills used when interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with company personnel, customers, and suppliers.
Ability to exercise discretion using sound judgment while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Excellent planning, time management and organization skills.
Experience with Deltek CostPoint and/or Deltek Time & Expense.
Experience with SOX regulations and compliance.
Knowledge of federal acquisition laws and regulations, including the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations (DFARS) and agency specific regulations.
Ability to work with aggressive timelines, in a team environment, with a willingness to learn and grow.
