JOB SUMMARY:
Clemson University's Finance and Payroll Team is looking for a Payroll Accountant to fulfill the following duties:
Member of the Finance team that performs corporate level payroll duties focused on vendor remittances, overall payroll processing, payroll accounting and maintenance of payroll data in relation to employee information.
Serves as the interim main point of contact for the Payroll Department; provides data to the Controller's Office and Accounting Services; and oversees data presented externally.
Performs miscellaneous payroll activities and other duties as assigned
JOB DUTIES:
50% - Essential
Serves as a back-up for payroll processing. Run and monitor various queries to ensure accuracy of payroll. Researches and resolves discrepancies. Review deceased pay, conversions, bridge pay, repay calculations, and withholding repays from future pay. Assists with partial repays as off-cycle manual checks. Review off-cycle pays before confirm. Research GL issues on the payroll side. Assist with positive pay and Paid Parental Leave takings during payroll calc. Collaborates with Payroll team and HR regarding Payroll Website. Assist with infrequent departmental inquiries and research. Updates policies & procedures as needed. Provides assistance with special projects as needed
25% - Essential
Responsible for IRS compliance including IRS Federal notices. Research and verify data for SSA verification for year-end processing. Coordinates annual data scrub for W2s and 1042s. Coordinates and assists with W2 year-end adjustments and add-ins, including gross ups & BOT non-cash items. Ensures remittance of annual SC W2 file and W2cs & 941x as needed. Coordinates data gathering and validation for external auditors, including preparation of notes for Financial Statements. Oversees monitoring of enrollment to determine taxability for Employee Tuition Program. Review limits for Retirement max contributions. Prepares FYE details to book future accrual liabilities. Assist with ASI flex year-end reporting verification for taxability for employees. Assist with annual reporting to Chronicle of Higher Education for President & Top 5 wage earner and other mandatory reporting such as SFAA and Statement of Economic Interest. Process PeopleSoft HR year-end close-out and start of new fiscal year. Gather other data as needed to support the Finance Division.
25% - Essential
Assist with emails and walk-ins, professionally and courteously answering questions or directing inquiries correctly. Reviews online Payroll Operations calendar and Pay Calendars in PeopleSoft HR. Review Payroll weekly email before sending to Campus. Responsible for setting up, changing, & stopping deduction & earnings codes in PeopleSoft HR. Works closely with IT on PeopleSoft HR issues. Responsible for PeopleSoft HR annual rate changes, including Parking Services, Fike, and meals plans. Assist with Quarterly & Annual review of Security Access in PeopleSoft HR. Approves employee level access for Payroll, Time and Leave Subject Matter Experts, upon successful completion of training & requirements. Leads mandatory update testing, ensures system readiness for special programs, and processing in coordination with Campus Partners including furlough, voluntary separation, bonus, COLA, & merit increases. Lead quarterly tax update testing and calendar year-end testing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Minimum Work Experience: 5+ years and experience in the following areas:
Knowledge of payroll principles, practices, and terminology.
Knowledge of general accounting procedures. Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Knowledge of state and federal regulations and laws applicable to payroll.
Ability to analyze and interpret payroll data and reports.
Ability to plan, organize, review, and oversee the work of payroll team members.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Preferred Experience: Experience in a corporate payroll office, Experience with Microsoft Office suite, Experience with PeopleSoft HCM 9.2.
Preferred License & Certifications: Certified Payroll Professional or Fundamental Payroll Certification

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Salary Range: $ 45,530.00 - $ 62,000.00
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

Essential Level 2 employee
Required to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
