Paving Superintendent- Asphalt Company- Base Salary to 110k/year- Traverse City, MI
Founded in 2019, our client is a locally owned and operated company that has roots in the Greater Northern Michigan region for over 43 years. With multiple divisions and companies under their ownership, they have grown from 5 employees in 2019, to now 50+ employes and climbing. They are a full-service asphalt company with the tools and experience to ensure their clients receive a quality product.
The Paving Superintendent will be responsible for organizing, planning, and executing all aspects of asphalt paving for commercial, residential, and municipal clients.
Responsibilities:
Working with the Estimator/Project Manager, Paving Foreman, Grade Foreman and Dispatch, responsible for scheduling grade preparation and paving functions.
Problem mitigation and solving. Any experienced paver knows that challenges are inevitable, this position will have access to all the resources of all the of company resources available to them to help minimize challenges through proactive efforts and to resolve challenges as they present themselves.
Able to jump into any position on the crew at any given time for any given duration. Working with the Grade and/or Pave crews as needed to get the job done – Hands-On Superintendent
Assist Pave/Grade Foreman with training new crew members.
Asset Management for Paving and Grading equipment including:
Identify and schedule general maintenance items
Break / Fix – Working with our mechanics and vendors to fix equipment failures
Additions / Disposals – Working with the President of the company to identify new equipment needs and to dispose of equipment before they become problematic and expense to maintain.
Review / Approve timecards for grade and pave crews.
Review / Approve Equipment hours for grade and pave crews.
Review / Approve Subcontractor invoices for grade and pave crews.
Review / Approve Billings & Costing
Project Management for key accounts
Assist Estimators with grade engineering for private driveways
Qualifications:
Candidates must have in-depth working experience and knowledge of grading and paving for residential driveways, commercial parking lots and MDOT roads.
7+ year’s work experience working on an asphalt paving crew with direct experience in the following areas: Paver Operator, Screw Operator, Raker, Roller. Ideal candidates would have vastly more experience in these areas with at least 2+ years in a supervisory role
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or willingness to obtain one. Critical to get equipment to/from the field in situations that call for immediate resolution.
Compensation:
Base salary up to 110k/year
Performance bonuses paid at end of paving season (April – October)
