The City of Concord is looking for a Pavement Marking and Signage Technician. DEPARTMENT:   General Services Department - Highways & Utilities Division

TYPICAL WORK SHIFT/SCHEDULE:  Days, Monday thru Friday, with some night work during the summer and Overtime is a requirement.

STARTING SALARY RANGE:   $22.81 to $27.13   (Top of range scale is $30.71)

Job Summary:

Performs a variety of semi-skilled and limited skilled duties as part of a crew engaged in a variety of projects involving the construction, maintenance and repair of the City's sign and pavement marking system. May serve as a lead worker for a crew of Laborer/Truck Drivers.

Assists in fabricating, erecting, and repairing street and traffic signs and their posts; records date and location of sign installations and repairs.

Paints various lines and other markings such as stop bars, crosswalk boundaries, handicap symbols, directional arrows, parking spaces, and indicator words such as "SCHOOL" and "ONLY".

Prepares signs and barricades for parades and other special events and places them as directed by the Police Department.

Maintains painting equipment.

Responds to requests by the public to make repairs to all traffic and road signs and pavement markings in the City. Sets up appropriate traffic control and warning device.

Picks up trash, glass, or other debris in roadways; cleans up roadkill.

Assists with plowing and removing snow from roadways and walkways, during winter months; applies salt and/or sand to roadways to maintain public safety; may operate backhoe or loader to fill trucks with salt and/or sand for road applications.

Repairs and replaces damaged posts, signs and mailboxes during winter operations.

Serves in an acting capacity in the absence of the Sign & Pavement Marking Crew Leader.

Work flexible schedules during both winter operations and summer painting operations.

Overtime is required of all positions within this class specification.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED; and one to two years of experience in pavement marking, sign installation, semi-skilled labor or trades job; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid New Hampshire Class(B) Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain with in 6 months

Knowledge of:

General construction and/or maintenance methods and practices.

Familiar with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices

Skill in:

Operation of required tools and equipment.

Painting and marking of streets and pavement

Techniques for repair and installation of signs.

Effective leadership skills to lead fellow workers

Mental and Physical Abilities to:

Take and follow directions from supervisor.

Perform strenuous and routine work.

Courteously and diplomatically interact with the general public and other City employees.

Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.

While performing essential functions of this job, employee may be regularly expected to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds according to the requirements of assigned division.

Specific vision abilities required for this job include: close vision, distance vision, ability to discriminate between colors, peripheral vision, depth vision, and ability to adjust focus.
