Work Hours/Shift:

Part Time 16 hours per week

You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Assists patients in/out of wheelchairs/beds/carts utilizing appropriate assistive devices.

  • Transports patients to/from the designated area of the hospital.

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association; 14-day grace period for proof of CPR certification after date of hire.

Job Summary:

The Patient Assistant is a non-licensed support person who functions as a member of the Patient Care Team. Responsible for transporting patients via bed/cart/wheelchair to and from designated departments under direction of a supervisor. The Capacity Management application will be used to electronically track, manage, and prioritize transportation workflow.

Responsibilities * Monitors schedule on daily basis for patients arriving into the department for the day if applicable. * Responsible for admitting scheduled and non-scheduled or emergent patients for the assigned department. * At the appropriate time, obtains identification to assure accuracy of demographic and insurance information. Enters information in computer system with correct spelling of patient name and diagnosis, date of birth, social security number employer, guarantor and correct medical record number. * At the appropriate time, Greets patients and/or relative interview and obtain and recheck pertinent information. * Explains facility policies and ensures patient and/or relative understands and signs the consent and insurance forms at the appropriate time. Clear and accurate documentation should be entered on the appropriate forms and keyed into the computer system. * Complies with Medicare/Medicaid and other insurance rules and regulations. Completes MSPQ as required for admission. * Responsible for coordinating all inpatient registrations in a timely manner. Complete reservation card for Emergency Room, Outpatient Clinic, Transfer Center, same day admissions documenting all required information. * Initiate or obtain bed assignments, coordinating patient placement with nursing unit, adhering to administrative guidelines considering factors such as : priorities, age, sex, diagnosis, infection control, individual physician and/or patient requirements / treatments to ensure the patient is placed in a suitable bed. * As needed, conducts a bedside admission on patients who are direct admits to the unit. This is accomplished by going to the patient's room to obtain signatures and complete admission process. At the appropriate time performs updates and changes in insurance or demographic information on an as needed basis. * Works closely with nursing staff, physicians, admitting staff and the finance department. * Possesses knowledge of administrative policies, departmental procedures, and third staff payor coverage. * Attends and actively participates in any staff training or education which relates to their position and would contribute to their knowledge. * May have responsibility for the inventory and release of patient valuables placed in safe following all requirements as described in the departmental policy. * Admitting Department Back-up: Provide coverage as requested in all areas of admitting following established guidelines. Possess knowledge of administrative policies, department procedures, third party coverage and required admission and insurance documents. * Responsible for other duties or projects, which are assigned by Management. These may include special projects, telephone coverage, filing, scanning, copying and other duties as instructed. * Responsible to learn any aspects of another position, with the same or lower job classification, as directed by the Supervisor or Manager. Qualifications Required: High School Diploma Basic computer skills Preferred: Three years general clerical experience / registration / customer service in a Health Care setting.
