Job Summary:

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provides front desk coverage. Answers incoming calls, schedules appointments, greets patients, registers new patients in computer system, schedules laboratory and off-site diagnostic tests requested by physician, verifies insurance eligibility and interprets covered benefits. Processes patient charges by totaling fees. Enters insurance coverage, receives and records payments in computer system.

Hours: Working 80 hours within a two week pay period. Hours will vary, but must be available to begin work starting as early as 6:30am and ending as late as 8pm when scheduled. Will work 1-2 evenings per week only and no more than 2 weekend days a month.

Location: This is a float Patient Service Rep opening. You must be available to float to our Elmhurst Medical Group Service area locations.

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Keyboard and computer skills
  • A valid driver's license is required if the incumbent is selected to perform related duties at an off-site location. If the incumbent uses their personal vehicle, the incumbent must maintain automobile liability coverage as required by law and evidence of such coverage may be requested.

Preferred:

  • A minimum of three months previous business office OR healthcare based experience

  • Previous insurance and managed care experience

  • Medical terminology or coding experience

  • Excellent keyboarding skills

  • Current CPR Certification issued by American Heart Association within 90 days of employment in this position

VIEW JOBS 9/6/2018 12:00:00 AM 2018-12-05T00:00 Job Details GENERAL SUMMARY: Bills and collects patient account claims related to Edward Hospital, Linden Oaks Hospital and nursing homes according to established policies and procedures under minimal supervision. This includes, but is not limited to: clear understanding of accounts receivable, collection cycle, techniques for account resolution, billing and follow-up on managed care, governmental and patient balances; understanding of all third-party payer reimbursement policies and serves as liaison for all staff, patients and the MSO. Hours: Working 80 hours within a two week pay period. Benefits eligible: Yes Location: 3540 Seven Bridges Drive, suite 230- Woodridge PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions, as defined by the ADA, except those that begin with the word "May.") 1. Performs daily data entry of all LOMG charges. Analyzes and reconciles accounts to ensure accuracy of coding and charge posting. 2. Prints provider's daily schedules and notates patient's account with balances great than $100. Contacts patients prior to visit to obtain payment commitments. 3. Analyzes CPT coding trends among providers and reports findings to manager on a quarterly basis. 4. Works accounts receivable account greater than sixty days past due by contacting insurance companies and patients for payment. 5. Prepares monthly bad debt report, distributes bad debt report to manager and providers and mails discharge letters to patients. Notates discharged patients in practice management system.. 6. Performs routine audits, including but not limited to: claims and face-sheets to ensure patient demographic and insurance information is accurate, managed-care referrals to ensure services provided are within scope of authorization, physician diagnosis codes and charges selecting appropriate options to ensure maximum reimbursement. 7. Utilizes various reporting tools such as aged-trial balance reports, procedure analysis and other electronic methods to follow up on unpaid claims. 8. Participates in development of billing policies and procedures. 9. Remains current of all government and third-party payer regulations and updates. Recommends revisions to unit policies and procures as appropriate to comply with current regulations. 10. Performs adjustments on accounts with credit balances and/or returned checks. Contacts third-party payer to resolve overpayment when credit amount is in question. 11. Handles incoming calls and interacts with patients until final resolution on issues and concerns related to billing and collection of balance amounts such as explaining reason for balance due, collection of payment and working with patients when there is an inability to pay. 12. Sends patients Financial Assistance application upon request and reviews completed applications and its documents for eligibility determination. 13. Responds and researches all billing/collection issues and resolves them to ensure appropriate insurance payment and patient account balances. Refers accounts as necessary to collection agency. 14. Verifies and/or pre-certs accounts that were not performed during the admission process. 15. Reviews payment vouchers to ensure appropriate balance due on accounts and performs adjustments when necessary. 16. Produces and sends itemized bills upon patient and insurance company request. Collects credit card information for payment on accounts via phone. Sets up time payment in system utilizing the department's payment plan guidelines. 17. Assists MSO with billing questions and/or issues. 18. Runs analysis report on a monthly basis of top ten payers and reports findings to manager. 19. Analyzes collection gauges such as point-of-service cash collected monthly and reports findings to manager. 20. Identifies trends in denials and reports to manager on a monthly basis. Identifies appropriate focus areas like coding registration, billing and utilization review departments to determine preventative measures. 21. Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 1.
