Stephens College seeks an innovative student-centered nurse educator for a full-time 12-month position. The primary responsibility is developing and implementing simulation learning experiences within our state-of-the-art patient simulation center at Boone Hospital and supporting simulated and laboratory learning experiences on campus. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, experience, and energy to support the nursing program and be able to teach across clinical disciplines.

About the Position:

The Simulation and Lab Coordinator works primarily to support practicum courses. The coordinator manages and supports the faculty teaching in simulation and laboratory learning situations, including standardized patients, manikins, task trainers, and medical equipment and devices. The Simulation and Lab Coordinator will lead the program in meeting Healthcare simulation standards of best practice (INACSL) or Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and guide team development in professional development in simulation. The Coordinator will manage and plan clinical placements and scheduling with faculty and Program Director. Each semester may include direct teaching activities as assigned by the Program Director.

Simulation & Lab Coordinator Position Description

The Simulation & Lab Coordinator will:

  • Support the mission, vision, and ideals of the College and the Nursing program.

  • Engage in teaching and service activities as defined in the Faculty Personnel Policies and the Constitution of the Corporate Faculty.

  • Create and implement a simulation program with nursing faculty to develop best practices in the simulated learning lab using a range of patient technologies and situations including mass casualty, standardized patients, OSCE, practice stations, case studies, and high-fidelity patients.

  • Manage purchases, stock, and acquisition of specialized equipment and supplies.

  • Execute set-up/breakdown, programming, maintenance, use, disassembly, and troubleshooting of equipment.

  • Assist in student recruitment and enrollment.

  • Provide training and serve as a resource for staff using simulation and lab equipment.

  • Serve as a resource for faculty in simulation development, identify opportunities for simulation, and assure curricular consistency for the simulation program.

  • Serve as an instructor in the Nursing program with assigned teaching duties based on background and experience in class, clinical, laboratory, and simulation settings.

  • Oversee the clinical, laboratory, and simulation learning experiences as assigned.

  • Contribute to accreditation and registration requirements.

  • Facilitate program assessment and evaluation.

  • Manage projects as assigned.

  • Provide service to the college and profession.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

Essential:

  • BS in Nursing from an Accredited College or University that includes a clinical component.

  • Current active licensure to practice professional nursing in Missouri and has never been disciplined in any jurisdiction.

  • Record of clinical experience in patient care settings exceeding 3 years.

  • Proficiency with simulation technologies and equipment, including updates, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Experience with educational practices, standards, outcomes, and assessment.

  • Strong desire to support BSN education and student learning.

  • Excellent collaborative and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Excellent organization and project management skills.

  • Meet the Missouri State Board of Nursing Requirements for contingent faculty.

Highly Desired:

  • MS, PhD, or DNP in Nursing

  • Experience in scenario design, setup, programming, and debriefing.

  • Certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE)

  • Clinical experience across more than one specialty area.

  • Experience teaching baccalaureate-level prelicensure nursing students.

  • Experience with accreditation and program assessment.

  • Experience engaging undergraduate students in research opportunities.

It was developed by partnering with Boone Health to develop The Learning Center, a simulated learning lab. The program has full approval by the Missouri Board of Nursing to enroll 24 students each year. The first class graduated in May 2023 with a 100% first-time licensing NCLEX-RN pass rate and a 100% employment rate.
