PSR's are the first point of contact for patients at a practice, and also have key responsibilities in the coordination of many day-to-day administrative office activities. Reporting to the Office Manager, this position provides general office support with a variety of clerical activities and related tasks. Responsibilities

  • Greet and check in patients in a friendly manner.

  • Collect co-payments and verify insurance coverage.

  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments.

  • Prepare new patient charts neatly and accurately.

  • Various office duties as assigned by Office Manager.

  • Responding to patient billing or financial inquiries, directing to appropriate departments, as necessary.

  • Collect and post payments and record receipts.

  • Balance nightly deposits and complete credit card processing.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Candidates will have a minimum of two years experience in a healthcare office or fast-paced, highly interactive customer service environment - experience in the dental or medical industry with scheduling and verifying insurances preferred.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to exceed patient expectations.

  • Excellent organizational skills to effectively handle multiple tasks.

  • Flexibility to support change, with varying schedules as necessary.

  • Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.

  • Resume must demonstrate stable employment history.

Position Summary: Under direction of the Clinical Manager, In-Patient Facility, provide personal and related care services to Hospice Residence patients. Assist with meal preparation and housekeeping. Qualifications: * A high school graduate or equivalency is required. * The Hospice Aide must have a sympathetic attitude toward the care of the sick, the ability to read, write, and carry out directions, and the maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job. * A CNA certification is required for all hospice aides hired on or after 7/1/2016. Preference is given to candidates with a CNA or HHA certificate from an approved program by the State of Florida or Alabama, as applicable, depending on assignment, with a curriculum that requires a minimum of 75 hours of training and a competency evaluation as described in the attached Federal Regulation 42 CFR 484.36, Condition of Participation: Home Health Aide services (a) Standard: Home Health Aide training. Candidates without the aforementioned certificate must successfully complete the Covenant Hospice Aide competency evaluation and in-service training program as described in the attached Federal Regulation 42 CFR 484.36, Condition of Participation: Home health aide services (b) Standard: Competency evaluation and in-service training. Completion of six (6) months experience as a Nurse's Aide in a hospital or medical surgical unit or six (6) months experience with a Home Health Agency or Hospice is preferred. * A valid Florida or Alabama driver's license, as applicable, depending on assignment, current automobile liability insurance and insurability under the company liability insurance are required. * If working in Alabama, must possess current proof of CPR training. Job Relations: Reports to: Clinical Manager/Asst. Clinical Manager Main Duties and Responsibilities * Personal physical care of patients as assigned by Manager. * Competently perform all basic Hospice Aide skills as listed on the "New Employee and Annual Hospice Aide Skills List". This Hospice Aide Skills List must be completed annually and submitted with the annual performance evaluation. * Assist the patient with personal care, which may include bathing, oral hygiene, hair care, routine skin care, feeding, dressing, grooming, transfers from bed to chair beside commode, or wheelchair and helping with ambulation. * Will be cross-trained to work at either the Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Residence or In-Patient Facility or at a hospital-based Hospice In-Patient, depending on patient census/patient care needs. * May perform the following functions after instruction and supervision by the RN or Manager. * Assist with the use of devices geared to disability as aids to daily living. * Assist patient with prescribed exercises that the Hospice Aide has been taught by appropriate professional personnel. * Assist with preventive skin care. * May reinforce non-sterile dressings. * Assist in providing light massage when approved by the primary nurse. * Record "input" and "output" as ordered. * Prepare diet as required by patient or ordered by the physician. * Take oral or axillary temperatures as needed. * Assist patient in taking oral medications. * Encourage the patient to become as independent as possible and resume activities of daily living according to the patient's abilities and conditions. * Offer simple emotional and psychological support to the patient/family Facility. Encourage patient mental alertness through his/her activities of interest. * Participates in Patient Care conferences and participates in various learning modes and in-services to enrich personal and professional growth, and to maintain the required 12 hours (Florida) of in-service education per calendar year. * Accurately document care and observations on forms and In-Patient record as designated by the Hospice Program. * Assist in the creation and maintenance of a climate that promotes growth and harmonious relationships within the Hospice staff. * Work in conjunction with scheduled shifts, on weekends as required. * Assist with food preparation for Hospice patients in the Residence. * The Hospice Aide shall observe the patient for significant changes in appearance and/or behavior and report this to the RN and/or Manager. * Assist with necessary housekeeping and laundry chores to provide quality environment for Residence at all times. * Assist Manager in maintaining health, fire and safety codes according to established policies and procedures. * Assure utilization of Universal Precautions for infection control at all times. * Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Manager. * Required to comply with all Covenant Hospice Policies, Procedures and Personnel Policies, including those specifically addressing disaster preparedness and response. * Works effectively with volunteer services to identify patient/family needs that can be met by volunteers; offers volunteer services to patients and families, as needed, throughout their length of stay; requests volunteer services to meet identified needs; documents volunteer interventions in the Plan of Care. * Determines the patient is hospice appropriate, documents to the patient's terminality, and establishes and maintains the care plan for medically necessary assessments and services. This applies to determinations and consultations with members of the IDG, including the Attending Physician or Hospice physician, in all circumstances in which the level of care is to be assigned as Short-term Inpatient Care or Continuous Care, and includes all actions required in Covenant's policies and procedures regarding the placement or removal of a patient from those categories of care. * As a member of the Interdisciplinary Group, is responsible for determining and documenting the level of care status of patients, and in particular, inpatient level of care, to ensure the patient is appropriate and meets the criteria for short-term care needed to manage pain and symptoms in an inpatient facility. This responsibility includes appropriate management and documentation with the patient's change in status either to short-term inpatient care or removed from that status, and all monitoring of the care during the inpatient period. This same requirement applies to management and documentation of patients who are placed on a Continuous Care level of care. Strict compliance with all rules and regulations, including Covenant Hospice's policies and procedures, is required. Functions that the Hospice Aide will not perform: * Administer medications * Sterile dressings * Gastric lavage or tube feedings * Care of tracheostomy tube * Give injections * Make judgments or give advice on medical or nursing problems * Give any personal care not included by the nurse in the plan of care * Give douches or enemas Irrigate colostomies * Apply hot/cold or wet/dry compresses * Take rectal temperatures * Adjust any medical equipment Special Demands/Physical Requirements: This position frequently requires medium/heavy lifting. Normally such lifting will involve but not be limited to, assisting with transfer/repositioning of the patient.
