This position is located in the Patient Administration Section of Health Administration Service (HAS). The incumbent is responsible for all patient eligibility determinations and for counseling Veterans on their rights and responsibilities as they relate to their entitlement to care at the facility.

Receives and processes applicants for admissions and outpatient treatment. Makes patient appointments and/or makes or assists in making the determination as to the patient's eligibility for benefits. Assist walk-ins with enrollment questions, registrations and completion of Means Test. Serves as the Means Test Coordinator by monitoring Means Test activities within the Medical Center and educate staff on procedures to appropriately complete the Means Test Data. In addition, completes means test by inputting data in the computer, scanning, printing and sending information to the Veteran to complete. Conduct daily verification of completed encounter forms from the Emergency Department and mail out Data Validation Unit.
To counsel Patients, their families and agency employees on entitlement to benefits. Interpret admission and outpatient policies to patients, their families, agency employees, and veteran organizations. Coordinates Primary Care Team assignments for eligible Veterans, monitoring the patient data base information to determine proper information is available to determine applicable co-payments for medical care and medications. Provide information and guidance to agency employees as required. Assist Supervisor with such function as training of new personnel, preparation of hardship letters, preparation of cost distribution reports and preparation of shift schedules for employees within the section.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts, or driving and automobile, etc... No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
