Functions as an AltaMed ambassador, is welcoming and attentive to the needs of all patients and creates a positive front office patient experience by managing expectations while demonstrating compassion and respect. Also functions as a member of the health care team by assisting in the delivery of patient-focused care by demonstrating excellent communication and problem solving skills.


Responsible for greeting and verifying the purpose for the patient's visit in order to determine patient priority. Responsible for inputting all information into AltaMed's practice management system.

Responsible for verifying eligibility as well as performing financial screenings. Responsible for monitoring patient wait times and proactively communicating with patients regarding their status during the visit. Responsible for scheduling appointments.

Responsible for reviewing and preparing charts in advance of the visit. Responsible for telephone management and ensuring that all calls are answered and resolved as expected. Responsible for communicating with the patient care team, which can include but is not limited to the medical assistants, providers and other team members to ensure that the patient experiences a seamless transition between hand-offs and to ensure all patient needs are met.

Responsible for the collection of patient co-pays and payments, as well as the daily reconciliation of their collections. Responsible for monitoring waiting rooms and ensures that waiting areas are kept clean. Perform other related duties as assigned.


High School diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of 1 year experience required as a customer service agent, greeter, or receptionist-type role; 1 - 2 years preferred.

CPR/First Aid certificate required. Bi-lingual English/Spanish/Mandarin/Cantonese strongly preferred.

THE AGENCY The County of Orange, Health Care Agency is a dynamic organization dedicated to creating and supporting an environment that promotes the achievement of optimal individual, family and community health. Under the direction of the Agency Director, a new and dynamic executive team with an organizational structure comprised of five service areas – Administrative and Financial, Behavioral Health, Correctional Health, Regulatory & Medical Services, and Public Health - is committed to meeting the health needs of the diverse Orange County community. THE DEPARTMENT The Public Health Services (PHS) is a nationally accredited health department that monitors the incidence of disease and injury in the community and develops and applies preventative strategies to maintain and improve the health of the public. THE PROGRAM The Testing, Treatment and Care Clinic provides free diagnosis and treatment for individuals over the age of 12 requesting medical care for sexually transmitted diseases (STD, STI, and VD). The clinic also offers Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) counseling and testing (anonymous and confidential) and provides ambulatory medical care for HIV positive, uninsured persons. Services for the HIV Ambulatory Clinic include medical care, case management, financial counseling, health education, and risk reduction information. In addition to STD care, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV (PreP) will be prescribed for eligible patients. THE OPPORTUNITY Operating under standardized protocols and at the direction of physicians and medical directors, the Nurse Practitioner II performs history and physical exams on patients in the STD clinic, diagnoses STDs in patients and prescribes appropriate treatment and recommends follow-up, conducts evaluation of patients for HIV PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) and prescription and long term follow-up of PrEP patients. The position provides services during the normal business days (Monday through Friday). DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES The ideal candidate will have Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Master's Degree in Nursing or clinical field related to nursing. The ideal candidate will also have at least one (1) year of experience working as a Family Nurse Practitioner providing preventive health services and acute care to an underserved population. Bilingual skill in Spanish is highly desirable for this position. In addition, the ideal candidate will have knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas: Technical Knowledge | Technical Experience * Knowledge of PrEP biomedical intervention, HIV care and social factors related to HIV disease * Experience with complicated syphilis cases, especially with clients who have a history of multiple episodes of syphilis infection and require historic review of previous diagnoses and laboratory results Quality of Care | Customer Service * Delivering high quality client-centered care and services to a diverse population of patients * Advocating for clients and demonstrating knowledge of resources to refer/link clients to specialty care and other services.
