Job Summary:
Perform a variety of secretarial support functions to assist the physician and other clinical staff in the emergency department.

1-2 years of experience. Entry level knowledge; basic employment skills; High School diploma:

GED equivalent or High School certificate. Basic computer skills, FirstNet, Standard Office Equipment, Medical terminology, Awarix.

I. Scheduling Responsibilities A. Schedules patients within the department. B. Identifies Patients A1. Accurately and completely enters scheduling information into computer system within the agreed upon time frame. A2. Regularly fills all vacancies due to cancellations with new appointments. B1. Consistently correctly assigns patient history number immediately upon check-in. II. Pre-registration Responsibilities A. Obtains pre-registration information. B. Explains procedures. C. Enters registration data. A1. Interviews patients and/or family members via telephone, prior to the scheduled appointment. A2. Consistently greets and interviews patient and family members to obtain or verify complete and accurate registration information. B1. Accurately describes procedures to new patients. B2. Ensures that patients are familiar with procedures that were explained. C1. Accurately and completely enters pre-registration information into a computer system and prepares daily printed schedules. C2. Consistently enters any additions and/or modifications into a computer system. III. Information Control Responsibilities A. Regularly prints and mails patient directions, maps, medical questionnaire forms and other information. IV. Billing and Insurance Responsibilities A. Verifies insurance benefits. B. Complies with billing requirements A1. Contacts insurance company via telephone. A2. Accurately records benefit information into computer system. B1. Consistently discusses estimated charges with patient or patient's family when appropriate. B2. Accurately assess patient's financial capability/situation and consistently directs patient to financial counselors when appropriate. I. Expedite Patient Care Process A. Verifies Patient Care Data. B. Identifies Patients. A1. Regularly reviews patient's file for appropriate paperwork, completeness and accurately (medical records, lab results, prior to patient's visit). B1. Assigns/verifies patient history number immediately upon check-in. B2. Consistently stamps laboratory test requisitions, history sheets, encounter forms, and professional fee sheets with patient's name. II. Special Equipment Responsibilities A. Fulfill patient's/patients' families/visitors needs for special equipment or wheel chair. III. Information Control A. Obtains insurance and demographic information. B. Enters insurance data. A1. Greets and interviews patient and family members in order to obtain or verify complete and accurate insurance information. B1. Accurately verifies referral and authorization information and enters into computer system. B2. Prepares daily printed schedules within designated time frame. IV. Registration Responsibilities A. Verifies financial information. A1. Completely and accurately prepare appropriate forms. A2. Consistently photocopies insurance cards and forms. A3. Regularly collects accurate TOS payments and issues receipts. A4. Accurately and completely prepares cash settlement records. V. Clinic Responsibilities A. Ensures appropriate clinical service. A1. Regularly directs patients to the appropriate clinical service. VI. Inventory Control A1. Regulates inventory's office equipment and supplies and follows department guidelines regarding ordering. A2. Inspects damaged office equipment and facilitates repairs. II. Billing Responsibilities A. Ensures correct billing. B. Assigns diagnostic/procedure and visit fee codes to charge vouchers for computer input. A1. Discusses estimated charges with patient or patient's family when appropriate. B1. Correctly codes all diagnostic/procedures to charge vouchers. IV. Insurance Responsibilities A. Responds to queries. A1. Assists with basic insurance and third party queries and explains payment polices upon request and within established guidelines.
