Patient Safety Technician (Sitter)

Shifts: Nights, 7pm-7am

We are looking for a qualified Patient Safety Technicians (PST) to provide daily assistance to patients. You will help them with their basic needs and collaborate with medical professionals to achieve excellent patient care. A Patient Safety Technician is a committed and compassionate professional. They have great interpersonal skills and ability to create a supportive environment. We expect you to be trained in patient care as well as various clinical tasks. The goal is to facilitate the recovery of the ill and injured by providing them critical everyday assistance.

Job Duties:

  • Observes patient one-on-one to ensure comfort and safety.

  • Consistently monitors patient's personal needs, recognizes and reports observations to the primary/charge nurse as required.

  • Communicates with patient and / or family to understand patient's needs and wants.

  • Calls code assist when necessary.

  • Independently identifies potentially unsafe environments for the patient; proactively takes initiative to prevent or resolve through appropriate channels or chain of command.

  • Practices good interpersonal skills, especially listening skills to interact with the patient and / or the family.

  • Maintains appropriate and positive communication with the patient and / or family. Recognizes patient's needs and adapts communication style as necessary.

  • Assists with basic patient needs that do not require further formal training (i.e. feeding the patient).

  • Conducts all interactions in a confidential manner. Selectively shares patient knowledge to assist in the delivery of quality services.

  • Remains awake and alert through the complete assignment.

  • Attends in-services specific to the area of assignment.

  • Consistently supports departmental PI policies and procedures.

  • Manages own time in a productive and reliable manner. Initiates and completes work assignments on time, adapts to change and meets departmental standards relating to time and attendance.

  • Promotes departmental and organizational objectives by providing cooperative and courteous service to patients, families, visitors, physicians, and all external customers.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Nursing Assistant program is preferred.

  • Prior healthcare and patient sitting experience preferred. CPR certification required.

We're looking for motivated professionals who seek the challenge and stimulation of working in an academic medical center with an international reputation. * Assists in preparation of the unit and patient rooms for receiving admissions transfers and post-operative patients. Assures cleanliness of room. Assures room is adequately stocked. * Uses proper body mechanics when positioning lifting turning and ambulating patients. Applies and uses appropriate equipment as needed. * Understands and implements the measures used to reduce the risk of health associated infections. * Reports any changes observed in the condition or behavior of the patient to the LPN/Registered Nurse in a timely manner. * Assists with the admission transport transfer and discharge of patients including the care of personal property and clothing.Lists the belongings flow sheet. Labels belongings bed and hospital equipment with patient identification. Orients newly admitted patients to surroundings. Receives and acknowledges patients independent of assignment. Assures collection of all belongings at the time of transfer/discharge. * Demonstrates the ability to provide safe care to patients who are: newborn,infants,children, adolescent, geriatric * Ensures patient personal and oral hygiene needs are met daily and/or as necessary. Provides catheters care daily and/or as needed. Reports any pertinent observations to LPN/RN. * Accurately takes vital signs and records in patient record promptly. Reports to LPN/RN promptly. * Distribute water records correct intake and output when indicated within shift. * Obtains and labels specimens accurately I.e. sputum stool urine maintaining precautions at all times. * Prepares patients for surgery and/or other procedures including prep and clip vital sign taking and recording assisting patient with bathing and/or voiding and removing and securing dentures jewelry and other belongings. * Weigh patients as assigned; records weights and alerts RN to any weight gain/loss. * Makes frequent patient rounds at least every two (2) hours. Repositions for comfort and offers bathroom assistance. * Assists RN with post-mortem care including labeling and securing of all patient valuables. * Provides patient care as directed by licensed nurse to include but not limited to: enemas sitz baths applying and removing ice bags k-pads binders and/or pelvic/buck's traction blood glucose monitoring and simple dress changes. Requirements: * CPR Certification required. * High School Diploma preferred * State of Florida Nursing Assistant Certification preferred; * 1 year experience preferred.
