Position Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the nursing staff by providing one-on-one, continuous observation of psychiatric patients who, in the judgment of the physician and/or RN, present an acute danger to him/herself or others. This position has some exposure to body fluids and communicable disease.

The majority of time is spent sitting, with frequent standing and walking of short distances. A culturally and linguistically diverse patient population is served including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics, with the majority being adults and geriatrics.

Specific Educational & Skill Competencies Required

Effective communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions as usually demonstrated by the successful completion of high school studies (or GED)

In addition, the EKG/Traction employee is responsible for the ordering and billing of special equipment and maintaining departmental records. This position has exposure to body fluids and communicable disease. Licenses/Certifications Required CPR Specific Educational & Skill Competencies Required The position requires good communication skills and the ability to operate standard office equipment as usually demonstrated by the completion of high school studies. The position also requires familiarity with EKG and traction function and equipment as usually obtained through the completion of basic dysrhythmia and BCLS/CPR courses. The employee must be able to read and correctly interpret written and/or oral orders associated with EKG and traction duties.

The Medical Surgical department has 116 private patient rooms that provide care to patients ages 16+ and serves general medical patients, including hospice and oncology patients, surgical progressive and post-surgical patients, including those in our Total Joint Center, which is a specialized unit dedicated to caring for patients who have received hip, knee and shoulder joint replacements. This fast-paced environment allows LPNs to strengthen foundational skills and provides opportunities for specialization in areas such as oncology, post-surgical care and surgical progressive care. All new hires will be assigned a dedicated preceptor during their orientation process. There is a dedicated unit-based educator, and a dedicated RN clinical coordinator provides support during each shift. Responsibilities * Provide high quality, patient focused care to assigned patients by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; recommending necessary adjustments; and following hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care. * Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential * Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations * Promote a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families * Assist in achieving patient quality of care, national patient safety, regulatory agency, and budgetary goals * Resolve patient problems and needs by using multidisciplinary team strategies * Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following procedures, rules and regulations * Serve a culturally and linguistically diverse patient population Licensure You must have an Arkansas LPN license or be licensed in a state that has enacted the RN/LPN NLC.
