Summary:

Assumes the role of patient safety/direct observation staff for psychiatric or medical patients when necessary either on psychiatric or non-psychiatric units such as medical/surgical floors, PICU, or the Emergency Department. Patient Safety Sitters will care for children including activities of daily living, maintaining a safe environment, and the management of harmful behaviors. Patient Safety Sitters deliver competent care to patients and families as supervised and delegated by the RN/LVN. Patient Safety Sitters deliver care with a team-oriented approach with an emphasis on excellent customer relations.

Education:

• High School Diploma required.

• Completion of a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) course or other comparable health care provider program, Completed first clinical semester in accredited nursing program, Associate or Bachelor degree in any field preferred.

• Experience in inpatient psychiatry or partial hospital psychiatric treatment preferred.

• Pediatric experience preferred.

Certification/Licensure:

• BLS for Healthcare Provider (AHA accredited program) must be completed before starting employment.

• CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention must be completed before completion of orientation.

• Completion of other education as required by Manager and Departmental Education Coordinator.
