The Patient Safety Observer (PSO) role is a position providing real-time monitoring and support to the patient care team by providing heightened observation of assigned patients to ensure safety and prevention of injury. The PSO provides services to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. The PSO will verbally redirect those patients who have been identified as being high risk for fall, confused, or patients at risk for injury and require enhanced patient safety. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and in accordance with department policies and procedures, responsible for keeping the patient in his/her line of site and working with others on the healthcare team to provide prompt intervention to prevent physical harm to patients ensuring optimal patient safety and comfort.

Minimum 1 year acute care preferred,
Direct patient care experience required
Knowledge of wireless phones, intercom system, basic computer operation, nurse call system, and fax machine, copy machine, headset communication.
The employee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide a safe environment and must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
The employee must be able to communicate observed changes in behavior / activity to the registered nurse.
