Position Title

Patient Relations Representative

Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Patient Relations Representative reviews and investigate patient complaints grievances to determine appropriate response. Request from the health system as a conduit for any patient concern. Liaise that out to other departments. Interface with Risk Management regularly to review cases that are clinical and more complex in nature. Communicate with patients verbally, in writing and in person to respond to their complaints.

Position Description:

  • Effectively manages complex and/or clinically related patient/family complaints from initial entry into the Patient Relations Department through reasonable resolution or referral to the Risk and Claims Department, maintaining patient rights.

  • Communicates and collaborates as indicated with Risk Management, hospital executives, physician colleagues and appropriate members of the hospital and medical center patient care, leadership and support teams.

  • Assists patients and families in meeting special needs, including but not limited to: advance directives and lost or damaged personal items concerns.

  • Coordination of and participation in patient family care meeting.

  • Provides consultation to hospital staff as requested to assist in boundary setting, care planning, resource identification, and problem solving.

  • Represents patient/family needs and rights on relevant working committees.

  • Participates in planning and/or presenting relevant orientation/in-service, continuing education as requested and appropriate.

  • Distributes and helps to interpret patient/family informational materials as needed. Contributes to the updating of these materials as indicated.

  • Maintains appropriate documentation.

  • Assists with Patient Satisfaction survey process as indicated.

  • Assists with departmental Quality Improvement activities to track and trend.

  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required:

  • Associates Degree and 3 years of progressive responsibility experience in a healthcare setting or Bachelor's and 2 years of previous experience in a healthcare setting

  • Ability to effectively operate in high-stress situations and exhibit sound decision making skills

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and concepts necessary to liaise between patients, their families and the care team

  • Ability to reprioritize their work based on changing organizational and customer needs

  • Decision making and critical thinking skills

  • Collaborative problem solving, decision making and customer service skills

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Healthcare, Social Science or related field preferred.
  • RN license or MSW preferred

VIEW JOBS 1/24/2021 12:00:00 AM 2021-04-24T00:00 Position Title PRN Patient Registration Representative Position Summary / Career Interest: The Patient Registration Representative is responsible for Inpatient/ Outpatient registrations for the Health System. Obtains proper patient identification, demographics and financial information to adequately register and secure the patient encounter. Responsible for POS collections as required. Maintains a constant focus on providing excellent customer service to patients/ families and a professional image. Position Description: * Monitors schedule on daily basis for patients arriving into the department for the day if applicable. * Responsible for admitting / registering scheduled and non-scheduled or emergent patients for the assigned department. * Conducts bedside admission on patients who are direct admits to the unit as needed. * Obtains identification to assure accuracy of demographic and insurance information. Enters information in computer system with correct spelling of patient name and diagnosis, date of birth, social security number employer, guarantor and correct medical record number. * Greets patients and/or relative. Interviews and obtains or rechecks pertinent information. * As required, collects co-pay or deposits as appropriate for service being rendered. * Responsible to balance cash drawer as a part of end of day process. * Explains facility policies and ensures patient and/or relative understands and signs the consent and insurance forms at the appropriate time. Clear and accurate documentation should be entered on the appropriate forms and keyed into the computer system. * Complies with Medicare/Medicaid and other insurance rules and regulations. * Completes MSPQ as required for admission. * Attends and participates in staff training or education which relates to their position and would contribute to their knowledge. * Responsible for the inventory and release of patient valuables placed in safe following all requirements as described in the departmental policy as needed. * Provide coverage as requested in all areas of registration following established guidelines. * Knowledgeable of administrative policies, department procedures, third party coverage and required admission and insurance documents. * Responsible for other duties or projects, which are assigned by Management.
