Job Summary:

To coordinate the daily patient placement needs for all admissions/observations from all access points inclusive of physician's offices, day surgery, emergency department, radiology, labor and delivery, other hospitals, admissions and completes related duties to patient placement and the pre-admission process.

Education & Experience

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of related experience

Certifications, Licenses or Registration required: N/A

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of patient registration procedures and documentation. Knowledge of medical insurance claims procedures and documentation. Knowledge of PA, knowledge of medical terminology patient care charts and histories. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records. Interpersonal and customer service skills. Verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates patient placement with nursing according to departmental guidelines. Reviews bed availability status daily and notifies appropriate personnel when planned admissions exceed bed availability.

• Facilitates review of patient assignments/discharges in avoidance of placing patients off service unless necessary, and maintaining fair distribution of patient access.

• Provides physicians and other healthcare team members information regarding delays as needed.

• Coordinates inter-facility transfers in compliance with EMTALA and hospital guidelines. This includes the emergency departments and other areas of entry.

• Facilitates patient and information flow by directing patients to correct locations, arranging patient transport, answering incoming telephone calls, and providing clerical support.

• Collaborates in the training of new employees; serves as the work lead for the patient services area of clinic as directed. Provides clear and concise reporting.
