The Patient Financial Services ER Registration department services the Emergency Department Trauma Level I Center at Banner Desert & Cardon Children's Medical Center. With anywhere from 350 to over 500 patient that walk into our doors we are the 5th busiest Emergency Department in the Nation and the busiest in the State of Arizona.

As the Patient Financial Services ER Registration Supervisor you will provide leadership, guidance and support as well as be the resource person for ER Registration staff and the ER care team on issue pertaining to patient registration. We are looking for someone that is passionate about making a difference in people's lives.

If you have 3+ years leadership experience in healthcare insurance and billing don't miss out on the excitement that comes with a very busy Level I trauma ER. This is a 4p-12:30a shift with mid-day start time one day a week.

Job Summary

This position directs, trains and assures the work quality of a team of patient financial services staff members. Through effective leadership, this position creates high quality service to patients, providers, payors and staff for services such as billing, collections, registration, scheduling, admitting and financial counseling. Holds responsibility for achieving designated team work goals.

Essential Functions

Schedules and supervises the work of assigned staff to achieve the defined business goals and to ensure smooth work flow in the department. Coordinates team activities and the staff-to-workload ratios to accomplish the most effective use of resources. Sets work goals for team members and monitors measurable outcomes in accuracy, timeliness, productivity and service quality.

Provides leadership, work goals and coaching for staff. Selects, hires and trains staff for assigned area.

Manages labor expenditures within budgetary guidelines. Conducts performance reviews, counseling/disciplinary action and termination of assigned staff. Works with the team to achieve designated work goals.

Uses advanced business and software skills for creating documents, letters, spreadsheets, reports, graphics, and presentations.

Coordinates and participates in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires the knowledge and business skills normally demonstrated by an Associates degree in Business Management or equivalent education and/or experience.

Requires a proficiency level typically achieved in 3 - 5 years in office management and/or employee supervision or leadership in healthcare insurance and billing. Business skills and experience in the assigned work area are required.

Advanced abilities in the use of common office software, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software are required. Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision and to work independently. Excellent organizational skills, human relations, and communication skills required.

Preferred Qualifications

Work experience in billing Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and other state Medicaid plans, Medicare billing, experience with all insurance types, hospital admitting experience, and experience with the companys billing system are preferred. Demonstrated success in a leadership role is a plus.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

As the Senior PFS Representative you will be the lead responsible for collaborating with all services in the ED on a daily basis to ensure that the department runs smoothly. This would include PFS staff, RN's, Case Management, Paramedics, Fire Departments, Police, as well as Physicians. Responsibilities include coordinating the department base on the flow of patient census, register patients at bedside, obtain demographics, verify benefits, obtain authorizations, obtain all signatures, determine patient amount due, collect at time of service and provide financial counseling as needed with all patients. Obtains federally/state required information and all consents and documentation required by the patients insurance plan(s). Must be able to consistently meet monthly individual accuracy goal as determine by management. Verifies and understands insurance benefits, collects patient responsibility based on estimates at the time of service or during the pre-registration process. As assigned collection attempts may be made at the bedside. Must be able to consistently meet monthly individual collection target as determined by management. May provide financial counseling to patients and their families. Explains company financial policies and provides information as to available resources, offers and assists patients with applying for Medicaid. Assists patients with completing all financial assistance programs (i.e.: basic financial assistance, enhanced financial assistance, prompt pay discount, loan program). Acts as a liaison between the patient, the billing department, vendors, physician offices and the payor to enhance account receivables performance, resolve outstanding issues and/or patient concerns, and maximize service excellence. Communicates with physicians, clinical and hospital staff, nursing and Health Information Management Services to resolve outstanding issues and/or patient concerns. Works to meet the patients needs in financial services. Consistently meets monthly individual productivity goal as determined by management. Completes daily assignments/work lists, keeps electronic productivity log up to date and inputs information accurately. Identifies opportunities to improve work process and practices good teamwork. Provides a variety of patient services and financial services tasks. May be assigned functions such as transporting patients, may precept new hire employees, recapping daily deposits, posting daily deposits or conducting other work assignments of the Patient Financial Services team. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Requires knowledge of patient financial services, financial, collecting services or insurance industry experience processes normally acquired over two or more years of work experience. Requires knowledge of medical terminology and a broad understanding of all common insurance and payor types and authorization requirements. Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision and to work independently. Requires strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to effectively interact with a wide range of audiences. Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital or the Whole Health Clinic must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
