Develops, implements, and oversees a pastoral care program that recognizes religious diversity and focuses on providing resources and activities to meet the spiritual needs of patients, family members, and staff.
- The Patient Experience & Pastoral Care Support Services Coordinator is also responsible for in-service training for employees and volunteer ministers that focus on providing spiritual care for patients. Develops hospital policies and procedures regarding pastoral care.
- The Patient Experience & Pastoral Care Support Services Coordinator will develop programs to enhance the total patient experience and will work on increasing positive employee engagement and patient experience.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in the field of Education, Counseling, Theological / Religious Studies or a related field. Completion of 3 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
- Must have a broad understanding of healthcare system structures.
- Must have knowledge of, and sensitivity to, end of life issues and possess the ability to provide spiritual care in an inter-faith setting with a demonstrated appreciation for religious diversity.
- Will have, or will obtain, training in biomedical ethics.
- Will be familiar with community resources available to cancer patients and their families.
- Ability to recruit, motivate, and train volunteers to participate in a hospital-wide pastoral care program.
- Training in the field of education with the ability to develop and conduct in-service training for hospital staff and general public regarding spiritual care of the sick, end of life issues, and related topics.
Required Length and Type of Experience
- One (1) year working as a hospital chaplain.
Required Licensure or Certification
- Board certification from a National Professional Chaplaincy Association and completion of 3 CPE units.
