PURPOSE OF JOB:

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, provides

direct patient care and performs selected therapeutic interventions and

diagnostic procedures.

In addition, this position also:

Provides clerical services to each Nursing Department to maintain efficient

operation. Acts as a resource to the Nursing Department as well as other

departments throughout the organization. Maintains and trouble-shoots equipment.

Liaison between internal and external customers, (i.e. Internal: Management,

both Clinical and Administrative, Education, Patient Access, Registration and all other support departments. External: Physicians, patients, families, volunteers and visitors).

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.Utilizes psychomotor and critical thinking skills to provide safe and

efficient direct patient care with consideration for age-specific and population accommodations.

2.Demonstrates competence in technical skills when performing patient care

and selected therapeutic interventions and diagnostic procedures, adapting as necessary for age-specific accommodations.

3.Effectively communicates with patient care team members, patients and

families with consideration for age-specific accommodations.

4.Collaborates with patient care team members toward excellence in

patient care.

  • Demonstrates the highest level of professionalism and ethical standards in performance of his/her duties and complies with all applicable laws in a manner that excludes considerations of personal advantage or gain.

  • Adheres to Doylestown Hospital's Corporate Compliance Plan, and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.
    7.Complies with HIPPA privacy rules by only discussing or seeking out information about the status of patients to whom care is being provided. Ensures such discussion takes place in a confidential setting.

Addition Essential functions of Unit Clerk responsibilities:

Demonstrates technical skills by computer data entry and maintaining patient

charts, including assembly of charts, labeling, color coding, transcribing

orders, chart order, filing and written documentation.

Performs effective receptionist duties utilizing good communication skills with

Physicians, Nursing, patients, family members, volunteers and all other healthcare Associates through a variety of mediums, i.e. telephone, personal contact, computer, patient call bell system, copiers, label printers: (both lab and patient labels) and fax machines.

Utilizes skills to organize and prioritize tasks in an environment with

multiple external stimuli and demands.

Utilizes computers to facilitate communication of department and patient

information, demonstrates keyboard competency and ability to provide routine

maintenance to assure proper function of equipment - printers, copier, FAX.

Job Qualifications:

A. Education:

1.High School or GED completion

2.Certified Nursing Assistant AND/OR: satisfactory completion

of appropriate continuing education specific to job requirements

B. Experience: Varies according to department or position.

Clerical, secretarial and/or receptionist experience.

Keyboard and computer skills

C. Other Skills:certified in HS or BLS CPR (per unit requirement),

excellent interpersonal and team building skills

D. Training time required once hired: dependent upon candidate
