PURPOSE OF JOB:
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, provides
direct patient care and performs selected therapeutic interventions and
In addition, this position also:
Provides clerical services to each Nursing Department to maintain efficient
operation. Acts as a resource to the Nursing Department as well as other
departments throughout the organization. Maintains and trouble-shoots equipment.
Liaison between internal and external customers, (i.e. Internal: Management,
both Clinical and Administrative, Education, Patient Access, Registration and all other support departments. External: Physicians, patients, families, volunteers and visitors).

7.Complies with HIPPA privacy rules by only discussing or seeking out information about the status of patients to whom care is being provided. Ensures such discussion takes place in a confidential setting.
Addition Essential functions of Unit Clerk responsibilities:
Demonstrates technical skills by computer data entry and maintaining patient
charts, including assembly of charts, labeling, color coding, transcribing
orders, chart order, filing and written documentation.
Performs effective receptionist duties utilizing good communication skills with
Physicians, Nursing, patients, family members, volunteers and all other healthcare Associates through a variety of mediums, i.e. telephone, personal contact, computer, patient call bell system, copiers, label printers: (both lab and patient labels) and fax machines.
Utilizes skills to organize and prioritize tasks in an environment with
multiple external stimuli and demands.
Utilizes computers to facilitate communication of department and patient
information, demonstrates keyboard competency and ability to provide routine
maintenance to assure proper function of equipment - printers, copier, FAX.
1.High School or GED completion
2.Certified Nursing Assistant AND/OR: satisfactory completion
of appropriate continuing education specific to job requirements
B. Experience: Varies according to department or position.
Clerical, secretarial and/or receptionist experience.
Keyboard and computer skills
C. Other Skills:certified in HS or BLS CPR (per unit requirement),
excellent interpersonal and team building skills
D. Training time required once hired: dependent upon candidate
