Summary:

Provides assistance with patient care activities and other tasks under the general supervision of a licensed professional staff and as directed by the unit manager. Population served based on scope of services in the department.

Responsibilities:

1.Provides daily physical and emotional care to patients: ie bathing, toileting, feeding, ambulating, etc in accordance with hospital policy/procedure

2.Answers call lights in a timely fashion providing assistance to patients or escalating requests/concerns to PCT or RN

3.Obtains vital signs including height, weight, intake/output, and other procedures per competency

4.Maintains a safe and clean environment, utilizing appropriate infection control techniques (patient room, utility room, unit)

5.Assists in stocking unit with supplies

6.Recognizes when to seek help from PCT and license personnel for changes in patient condition

7.Demonstrates use of appropriate body mechanics

8.Communicates problems to RN, charge RN or unit manager as appropriate

9.Maintains patient safety through preventative measures (ie. Side rails, bed/chair alarms)

License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:

  • BLS required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire

  • Significant manual skills / motor coord & finger dexterity

  • Some occupational risk

  • Medium to Heavy effort. May exert up to 35 lbs. force

  • Significant exposure to dirt, odor, noise, human waste, etc.
