Summary of Job Duties:

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the clinic-based team who supports the ongoing delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary Patient Management Team. The PCT works under the direct supervision of the R.N. and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment, or intervention. The PCT must pass the required competencies. The PCT works within the service line's standards. The PCT adheres to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures and standards, Code of Conduct and guest care guidelines.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED and successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.

  • Must have communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics, and accountability.

  • Must be able to lift 100 lbs. to waist height.

  • Customer service experience.

  • Desires to work in fast-paced setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ year(s) experience working in an acute hospital setting, providing patient care.

  • Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct patient care by acquiring medical history, vital signs, and lab samples.

  • Communicates with nursing staff regarding changes in patient's condition and maintains adequate level of supplies required for patient care.

  • Greets patients upon arrival to clinic.

  • Schedules, registers, and checks out patients.

  • Collects payments, issues receipts, and verifies insurance coverage.

  • Transports patients to other areas of the hospital, as needed.

  • Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with physical activities.

  • Documents all patient care activities.

  • Adheres to UAMS safety plan.

  • Complies with safety instructions and observes safe work practices.

  • Provides input on safety issues.

  • Serves as resource to support department members in performance of duties.

  • Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
