Job Description
As a Patient Care Tech II at MUSC, you will play a pivotal role in the healthcare team, providing direct patient care under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and physicians. Your responsibilities will include assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), monitoring patient vital signs, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist patients with ADLs such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and feeding. Take and record patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respirations. Perform electrocardiograms (ECGs) and other basic medical procedures as directed. Transport patients to and from various departments for tests and procedures. Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient rooms and equipment. Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) program or equivalent experience.
Current certification as a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move patients and equipment, up to 50 pounds.
Manual dexterity to manipulate medical instruments and equipment.
Ability to stand for long periods and walk frequently.
Visual acuity and auditory ability to assess patient condition and respond to alarms.
Skills and Qualities:
Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
Strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Adherence to infection control protocols and patient safety guidelines.
Environment:
Fast-paced hospital environment with exposure to infectious diseases and patient care emergencies.
Collaboration with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals.
