Patient Care Technician - 7N GI Surgery

Job Description

Summary:

Under the direction of a licensed professional performs various service related activities in support of patient care through basic patient care, general cleaning and supplies distribution. The Patient Care Tech I may do some basic unit assistant/secretary duties, supervised by professional nurse/Manager/Director.

The Patient Care Tech I will assist with conducting and documenting vital signs, changing and making beds, transporting patient, delivery of food trays and assisting with lifting in and out of bed. In addition will provide activities for daily living to the patient that includes bathing, feeding, and dressing.

May also deliver and retrieve items from other departments within the hospital. Answer call lights and may function as a Unit Secretary, including preparing patient record and order entry.

The Medical Surgical Gastro is a Med/Surg unit with a focus on GI. Many of our patients have non-surgical abdominal pain, cirrhosis, hepatitis, non-surgical bowel obstructions, intractable nausea and vomiting, cholelithiasis, acute pancreatitis, diarrhea, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, diverticulitis, and upper and lower GI bleeds.

We also receive patients from surgery of less complicated cases. This is a fast-paced unit with lots to offer! We are a unit that values teamwork above all.

No matter the situation, whether it be a code blue or a birthday party here on the unit, we bind together and get our tasks completed as a team. We are very proud of the family we have built and can't wait to add to it.

Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent.

• Strong customer service skills and computer literacy is required. Previous experience as a Patient Care Tech in a hospital setting preferred.

• CPR (American Heart Association)
