POSITION SUMMARY

Pay Range: $19.49 to $26.90

Position Summary -

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a care provider responsible for completing a variety of activities and tasks comprising the care of patients and their families. This role is a member of a designated care team functioning under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. The PCT is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives and policies of the department and the hospital.

The PCT performs clinical duties required for the nursing unit. Clinical duties vary depending on the unit needs, examples include vital signs, ADLs, mobility, patient safety attendant and blood glucose monitoring. Assists in maintaining a safe, clean patient care environment and actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission and objectives of the organization and performs other duties as requested. To coordinate and assist in the provision of quality patient care in the Acute Care setting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES -

Performed majority of the time:

  • Demonstrates the ability to provide patient care including various activities of daily living, under the direction of the RN.

  • Performs specific patient needed clinical duties.

  • Maintains own clinical skills staying current in skills and equipment.

  • Demonstrates thorough, concise, and timely documentation when working in the clinical care setting. Communicates pertinent patient and unit information to charge nurse, RN and other appropriate persons while maintaining confidentiality.

  • Follows and assists in the implementation and interpretation of policies and procedures.

  • Assists in the monitoring and stocking of proper supply inventory. Assists in maintaining equipment.

  • Completes various errands as requested such as retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments, test results and so forth.

  • Assists in transferring patients, beds and patient care equipment to other rooms adhering to necessary safety precautions.

Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job:

  • Performs special projects and other related duties, as assigned.

  • Participates in staff development activities for the unit.

Decision making and budget responsibilities (e.g. impact limited to the employee, entire unit or organization-wide):

  • Impacted limited to the employee and the wellbeing of the patient.

  • Minimum one (1) year patient care experience in an acute care or pre-hospital setting. Will consider military experience as medical personnel and/or senior clinical nursing student.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

Required

  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred upon hire, and required within 90 days of hire.

o If not American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certified upon hire, must have current BLS certification through another provider.

Preferred

  • EMT, CNA, MA Certification or equivalent.
