About the position

The Float Pool Patient Care Technician assist patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit. This skilled individual will be trained and able to float to the following departments in the hospital:

  • Medical Surgical Unit

  • Pre Operative/PACU

  • Emergency Department

  • Gastroenterology and Pain Management

Required Skills

Medical Assistant or clinical training preferred

One year experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified is preferred

Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories

Patient Interviewing skills

Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols

Knowledge of patient evaluation procedures

Ability to perform routine invasive procedures, such as venipuncture, and EKG

Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards

Ability to adapt to change quickly, strong knowledge base relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical patient

Understands principles of aseptic technique and their implementation

Role will be based on the needs of the pediatric service line. Patient Care Assistant: * Perform direct patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. Serve as a member of the healthcare team by providing assistance with activities of daily living * Gather and report data and changes in patient condition with emphasis on pediatric patient * Complete selected delegated tasks following competency validation. * Deliver care within the limitations of a non-licensed person, under supervision of the RN * Deliver safe, accurate, and timely patient care Health Unit Coordinator * Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, perform clerical functions related to patient care for the pediatric services * Contribute to a safe environment of care for the patients served * Maintain the medical record, stock supplies and act as clinical unit receptionist * Transcribe medical orders with emphasis on orders common to Women's care * Communicate effectively with patients, families, and visitors in an age appropriate manner * Effectively communicate between departments and healthcare team members * Apply standard precaution guidelines to verify, handle, and transport blood and body fluids * Support the mission, vision, and values of the organization * Other duties as assigned Medical City is a very "special" ANCC Magnet medicalcenter located in far North Dallas that is designed with the health andwell-being of the entire family.
