Job Summary: The Patient Safety Tech (PCT) assists in providing a safe environment for patient with identified risks and reduces potential for injury to themselves or others.

This PCT will perform functions to enable compliance with hospital policies and procedures, and Joint Commission accreditation standards.

Also assist nursing staff with necessary patient care. Under the supervision of nursing staff members assists in providing patient care, and maintains a clean environment.

Typical Duties:

Observes and monitors patients identified to be at risk for self-injury, fall and/or otherwise behaviorally impaired. Notifies the patient#s nurse when patient displays actions or behaviors suggesting the patient will cause harm to themselves or others or when the patient is unable to utilize the call light and is requesting assistance.

Attends to patients# activities of daily living and will obtain and report vital signs and intake and output to the primary nurse.

Documents patient behavior according to hospital policy during their assigned shift using all required forms or reporting systems as appropriate. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Reporting: Required minimum education: High School graduate or equivalent.


Required minimum experience:


One-year experience in a medical setting preferred.# Required skills (if applicable): Ability to read and write English, effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to comprehend and follow verbal or written instructions. Fluency in other languages preferred.# Required license/certification:

Texas Nursing Assistant certification preferred. Current BLS certification or must obtain within three months of hire date. Job reports to (title of the position): Intensive Care Unit Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, Staff Nurse, House Supervisor.
