Job Description Summary The Patient Care Technician II (PCT II) at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) provides advanced patient care under the direction of registered nurses and healthcare professionals. The PCT II is responsible for assisting with direct patient care, monitoring vital signs, supporting patient mobility, and ensuring a safe and clean environment.

The PCT II is responsible for assisting with direct patient care, monitoring vital signs, supporting patient mobility, and ensuring a safe and clean environment.

This role requires a high level of clinical skills and the ability to perform various technical tasks to support patient care. Key Responsibilities: Direct Patient Care:

Assist with patient hygiene, feeding, dressing, and toileting. Provide compassionate care and support to patients, ensuring their comfort and dignity. Vital Signs Monitoring:

Accurately measure and record vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates. Report any abnormalities to the nursing staff promptly. Clinical Procedures:

Perform advanced technical tasks such as EKGs, phlebotomy, wound care, and specimen collection as directed by the nursing staff. Patient Mobility: Assist patients with mobility and ambulation, including transferring patients from beds to wheelchairs or stretchers.

Support the use of mobility aids and ensure patient safety during movement. Medical Equipment: Operate and maintain medical equipment used in patient care, ensuring proper functioning and cleanliness.

Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities, observations, and any changes in patient condition. Infection Control: Follow strict infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections.

Ensure that the patient environment is clean, organized, and safe. Patient Education: Assist in educating patients and their families about care procedures and health management as instructed by the healthcare team.

Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care. Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Completion of an accredited Patient Care Technician program or equivalent preferred. Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Patient Care Technician or similar role in a healthcare setting. Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Certification as a Patient Care Technician (CPCT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred. Skills: Strong clinical skills with the ability to perform advanced patient care tasks. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move patients, stand and walk for extended periods, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
