Job Summary: Works with the perioperative team, under the supervision of the nursing staff, in providing safe and effective care to the surgical patient during the perioperative period. Will be responsible for overseeing anesthesia support and managing supplies in the surgery department and will provide patient care assistance.

Job Responsibilities:
Supports patient's rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural, ethical and religious diversity.

Follows principles of surgical aseptic technique.
Appropriately sets up O.R. with equipment and supplies for surgical procedures, obtains additional supplies/equipment for the surgical team, and returns equipment and supplies to the appropriate places.
Follows policy and procedures for cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization of scopes and instruments.
Follows policy and procedure for environmental cleaning and housekeeping.
Assists anesthesia in pre-op, cleaning and preparation of anesthesia machines and stocking of room inventory.
Performs inventory management duties of the anesthesia work room and carts including department requisition creation to ensure supply replenishment of par locations. Works with anesthesia, surgical buyer and materials management to coordinate inventory needs.
Identifies daily supply need and ongoing par level adjustments in operating rooms and supply carts.
Works independently, uses judgment and discretion during day-to-day activities.
Maintains a working knowledge of the Materials Management, OR module, Meditech and hospital computer system.
Reviews inventory activity to maintain proper stocking levels and ensure inventory targets are achieved.
Performs monthly and weekly calibration and maintenance tasks on anesthesia machines according to procedure.
Qualifications
Education Requirements and Other Requirements:
Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent. Vocational training in relevant area, documented on-the-job training program or experience with O.R. equipment, supplies, anesthesia and inventory management (preferred).
Certification/Licensure: CPR Certification.
Experience Requirements: Preferred experience in providing or assisting in patient care and knowledge of medical terminology. Basic knowledge of computers, aseptic technique, anesthesia and materials management techniques.
Working Conditions: Exposure Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
