The Department of Internal Medicine is accepting applications for a Patient Care Specialist.

The Patient Care Specialist will join the team at the ETSU Center of Excellence for HIV/AIDS and the Infectious Diseases Clinic. As a member of the clinical care team, this position involves working with both HIV-infected and HIV-at-risk patients. The PCS will assist providers with direct clinical care, including task reconciliation, managing medical records, administering injections, and interfacing with providers and patients to enhance the overall quality of patient care. Additional related duties may also be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in utilizing electronic health record systems for daily tasks.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills with patients, supervisors, physicians, and co-workers.

  • Professional telephone communication with pharmacies, providers, and community agencies as needed.

  • Competent in conveying patient needs to providers.

  • Knowledgeable of HIPAA requirements and guidelines.

  • Adherence to and application of university, college, department, and clinic policies and procedures.

  • Professional behavior and ability to present a positive image of the facility at all times.

  • Familiarity with accepted nursing/CMA standards and practices.

  • Understanding of medical terminology and basic pharmacology.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Skilled in providing patient care according to facility standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.

  • Capability to maintain quality control standards.

  • Ability to react calmly in emergency situations.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Effective time management skills to accomplish assigned duties.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate
  • CMA (AAMA certification), RMA, or LPN
